How to setup a private Zotero sync using WebDAV and Docker.

Zotero Sync with WebDAV and Docker

Zotero is another tool for keeping track of research papers, except Zotero does much more than that: the open source software ships with a browser extension which allows you to add almost anything (papers, book, videos, wikipedia pages) to your library with a single click, keep notes and additional resources close at hand, and export citations in a whole mass of different formats.

In addition to all that, Zotero also comes with a cloud storage sync, so you can back up all of your library and sync it on other machines.

Zotero provides a WebDAV client so that you can host your own, however this isn't particuarly well documented to date.

  • Requisites:

You'll need Docker and a Zotero login (file sync is prevented without a login, so you can create a throw away one if so desired).

Making a wireless router with an ASUS PCE-AC88 and Linux (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS)

Introduction

This project makes a wifi router out of an ASUS PCE-AC88 wireless adapter and your Ubuntu Linux computer that can exceed top of the line routers.

Instead of buying a gaming grade router or another computer that you install openWRT on, follow this project and put the savings towards upgrading your main computer or modem.

Add Adapter

The adapter needs to be added to a PCI slot and the wireless antenna needs to be connected to the adapter. If your computer does not detect it, you may need to re-seat the adapter in the slot. If you can't detect wireless networks after installing the firmware below then this is probably why.

Install Firmware for Adapter

For your computer to use the wifi adapter you need to add the missing firmware that Asus won't provide.

Basic
=====
[Shift]+[Mod]+[Enter] - launch terminal.
[Mod]+[b] - show/hide bar.
[Mod]+[p] - dmenu for running programs like the x-www-browser.
[Mod]+[Enter] - push acive window from stack to master, or pulls last used window from stack onto master.
[Mod] + [j / k] - focus on next/previous window in current tag.

Install dropbear SSH server with automated hooks for being included in an initramfs.

apt-get install dropbear

Remove default private/public key for login, clear dss key (would be regenererated otherwise), remove insecure 1024-bit RSA host key and generate a new 2048-bit RSA host key (we'll have to keep the DSA-key, dropbear won't start otherwise - make sure to use RSA when connecting):

A color blind/friendly color cycle for Matplotlib line plots. Might want to shuffle it around a bit more, but already not it gives kinda good contrasts between subsequent colors, and shows reasonably well in colorblind filters (though not in pure monochrome).
