Jay Edmundson
Started about 100 years ago (lmao) in the mid-90s - in real estate and thought "This vb stuff looks relly cool" so took credit class for and learned programming
Works on gov't projects - solving problems
Problem solving, need to be lazy - find a better way to do it, all about shortcuts
Do very little programming anymore, on the side. Industry as a whole - works in field of gov't processes, Core MMIS what it did 10yrs ago was one thing, now it's modular (UNIX) - current mod is the base (sysinit) - helping OH purchase a sys integrator mod for providing comms
Besides being politically correct, would say going with what customer wants
Bachelor's duh (Business mngment - no formal tech certs, he does managing/consulting).
Duties - Started a few weeks ago, might be working to procure system int. module - consists of statement of work, requirements, func/nonfunc reqs (has to do one way, whereas here we want to work with WinUMA) Work with state's requirements, Document management system (save reports a certain way) Service level agreements (SLA - system has to be available all the time - if not, pay gets dropped) Reports must be responsive in five seconds Bug reports (logs, etc.) - if you don't report bug logs timely, pay drops
If we're talking programming - common, sought after skill (change is imminent) JS/Node/Web - update and pay attention to current trends dotNET world - VB.NET replaced by C# Mobile apps - forefront of tech today (even gov't wants them) - people are buying more devices over laptops Entry-level guess: approx 40k if your with your shit lmao Consulting - 40k - 2yrs ago in NM he was 30s straight to 60's in two years - mid-level .NET dev gets ~70klmfao Senior level .NET - 90-100k - don't show up to work every day
Demand - both yes to programming and consulting - don't know as much about
Jobs - analyst, serves MO, OH, wanted to serve IN, having knowledge of what fits - company doesn't hire programmers
College degree, BS compsci, business mngmnt - tech with science, most cos will pick someone with a year or two doing something similar to what they wanna do Work as dev at medicaid, will hire you Problem solving - people skills, maniplulation In programming, advancement, is managers or seniors, consulting has coordinators, internal/in-house consultant, principal consultant.
