VP8 vs H.264 - Which One is Better?

So I was reading Hacker News and decided to read the comments in the thread about H.265 being approved. Pretty close to the top was this comment about VP9, Google's future video format. I have some words of my own about it and other future formats at the bottom of this post, but what jumped out from the comment to me was this part:

This gist contains old versions of ExLinks, documenting the initial phases of my JavaScript learning. A little bit of history: Before ExLinks, there was a userscript called ExSauce, written by some anonymous developer. This script didn't work on Chrom(e|ium). At one point, 4chan (the site these userscripts are aimed for) revised their HTML markup drastically, which broke ExSauce. Having relatively recently switched to Chrome at that point, I decided to take a stab at fixing it, and making it work in Chrome while I was at it. I knew basically zero JavaScript at that point (but had other programming experience). I managed to make it somewhat work, and people started asking for a script like ExLinks. I decided to take up the challenge, and the development basically started from hacking ExSauce to do what I wanted.
