I saw how you train soldiers to kill Muslims…we will come to your homes and we will kill you.”\n <br /> \n <div> \n  <br /> \n  <ins></ins>\n  <br /> \n </div> \n <br /> \n <br /> What kind of extensive training spans 11 years and what did this person actually learn? Why and how did this person receive Russian training while simultaneously being deeply connected to the U.S.?\n <br /> \n <br /> If you need more proof that the U.S. government doesn’t have a strategy to deal with ISIS, here it is. It doesn’t get much more blatant than this. The lead-up to the second Iraq War was no exception. As the reader no doubt recalls, the George W. Bush administration, right wing pro-war conservatives, and few more moderate Democrats began to express their concerns in the years and months following 9/11 with the possibility that Saddam Hussein was harboring weapons of mass destruction and that his regime was building a chemical weapons plant with devastating capability. Whether through the media, official public speeches, or behind closed doors, the same story was repeated to the masses and that story was this: Saddam is a danger to both his own people and his neighbors.</p> \n  <p>In 2003 the United States and its allies invaded Iraq and later overthrew Saddam Hussein’s regime—bringing relief to millions of Iraqi people and many of their long-frustrated neighbors. After many years of dictatorship and a severe crackdown on civil rights and liberties, millions held hope in their hearts for a life of social and political stability.</p> \n  <p>Unfortunately, this hope has gradually turned into a nightmare. The grand plans of the coalition have gone horribly awry, resulting in unjustified acts of barbarism, cruelty, a series of kidnappings, political and military coups, and deadly sectarian violence. The war, needless to say, went sour at a moment when every promise given of liberty and peace were at stake. “Jihadism opened a franchise in Iraq and gain[ed] steam around the world,” stated one media source, as the social cohesion of the region was torn asunder and the country dramatically fell into ethnic division.</p> \n  <p>The aftermath of the war was uniquely devastating and the statistics daunting; thousands either killed or dislocated, hundreds oppressed and prosecuted in shameful trials, and others are still looking for viable options.</p> \n  <p>Who is to blame for this? Even extreme pacifists, those who have an aversion to war the most, may agree to a war if it is to stop a genocide, starvation, or a real threat to humanity. In Iraq, none of these catastrophes were present: so why did it happen? The United States gave two justifications: Saddam Hussein’s supposed weapons of mass destruction and his links to terrorism. Both were later proven wrong. Let us explore these points a bit more.</p> \n  <p>In reality, the story of war with Saddam’s Iraq now is a side story in global news, simply a group of files and documents ferreted away in one of the many secret American federal offices. Iraq simply doesn’t matter anymore. Iraq was invaded and the mission was officially declared completed. What, you may ask, about the weapons? The U.S. and its allies simply overestimated Iraq’s military capability; it was merely a bad calculation: “they all suffered from a widespread intelligence failure,” the U.S. State Department official statement went. Aha!</p> \n  <p>Of course, it was not all about weapons. After the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, Bush’s administration publicly held Saddam responsible based on intelligence claims that his regime was attempting to collaborate with Al-Qaeda and its affiliated terrorist groups. No documents, no materials in hand, and no serious or reliable resources, simply another intelligence “estimation;” in other words, mere suspicion.</p> \n  <p>To reiterate, none of the claims made by the Bush administration turned out to be true. Indeed, Hussein’s regime had never even attempted to build any relations whatsoever with Al-Qaeda. Moreover, the invasion itself was integral in bringing about more violence, more terror, and a stronger Jihadist monster—the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS. How did this happen?</p> \n  <p>All of the evidence and reasoning behind the Iraq War has now become a side issue. Now, the Middle East and the world wakes up every day with a new headache called ISIS. “Washington’s more important intelligence failure lay in underestimating what would be required to rebuild and restore post-Hussein Iraq,” a source stated. This failure has caused too much pain and brought about an avoidable tragedy.</p> \n  <p>For more than a decade, the U.S. and many of its allies, including post-Hussein’s Iraq and Kurdish forces, have been fighting this emerging enemy’s advancing forces. Unfortunately, no progress has been achieved and every effort has been in vain. Twelve years have passed and conditions are stagnant; ISIS and other terrorist groups are resilient and continue to gain ground.</p> \n  <p>We have two explanations for this phenomenon: First, “The Islamic State is a learning enemy and they know how to maneuver and how to use populations and concealment, they’re becoming more savvy with the use of electronic devices, they don’t fly flags and move around in large convoys the way they once did. They don’t establish headquarters that are visible or identifiable,” explained Gen. Martin Dempsey, chair of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff. But is this true? The short answer is: maybe.</p> \n  <p>ISIS soldiers fight well, they fight like true warriors, have professional military skills, and advanced arms. This can be seen in the fact that they continue to gain more lands in both Iraq and Syria and most recently in Libya. The question now is: where do they train? Where do they get their weapons? The General may have an answer.</p> \n  <p>Secondly, U.S. Sen. John McCain believes that, “No one outside the Joint Chiefs of Staff believes we have a strategy,” to defeat and degrade ISIS. He continues that, “Panetta and Gates have recently written books which have criticized Obama. In his remarks, Gates likened Obama to President Lyndon B. Johnson in what he called, ‘micromanagement’ of military policy.” Alas, America failed strategically in much more.</p> \n  <p>Promoting a liberal society in the heart of the Arab world failed, and failed badly. The promise of what former President Bush called the “Great Middle East” has turned the region into a mess. What explains this failure? This is something we must explore in the days to come. Until then, we may confidently say: worry not— there is always an excuse for any action if you spin enough stories and fabricate enough moral high ground.</p> \n  <p><strong><em>Morocco World News. On October 24, the <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/sinai\" title=\"View all posts in Sinai\">Sinai</a> Peninsula witnessed the deadliest attack on Egypt’s military in years. Twenty-eight soldiers were killed and another 30 injured when a car bomb exploded at the Karm al-Qawadis security checkpoint in Sheikh Zuweid in North <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/sinai\" title=\"View all posts in Sinai\">Sinai</a>.</p> \n  <p></p>\n  <div></div>Hours later, three security personnel were killed when militants opened fire at a checkpoint in nearby El Arish.\n  <p></p> \n  <p>Following the attack, Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi declared on State television that “‘foreign hands’ were behind the violence,” and government sources have indicated that violence in Egypt — including Sinai — is linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (<a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/isis\" title=\"View all posts in ISIS\">ISIS</a>, also known as Da’ish or <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/isil\" title=\"View all posts in ISIL\">ISIL</a> – as it is called by the US).</p> \n  <p>Intelligence reports have already indicated that Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, an active Islamic <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/salafi\" title=\"View all posts in salafi\">salafi</a> group operating against the Egyptian army in Sinai, recently pledged allegiance to ISIS. Intelligence reports indicate that the Islamic State, made up of Iraqis, other Arabs and foreign fighters, has been busy coaching the Sinai-based Ansar militants on how to operate more effectively.</p> \n  <img src=\"http://defense-update.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/egyptian_military800.jpg\" alt=\"Egyptian military units were deployed yesterday (Thursday 27 November) in preparation anti-government demonstrations called by the Salafist front. Photo: Egyptian Government \n  <p>Indeed, Egypt recently had a tumultuous 48 hours: An explosion in a Cairo metro station injured 16 people; terror attacks in Sinai killed five; a bomb exploded at the Egyptian Embassy in <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/libya\" title=\"View all posts in Libya\">Libya</a>’s capital Tripoli; and 13 military servicemen are missing or wounded, following an attack by militants on&nbsp;an Egyptian navy ship off the northern port of Damietta. It was the first time such a naval attack had taken place. Four fishing boats were used in the assault, allegedly carried out by unidentified “terrorists,” four of whom were killed, military sources said. They identified the attackers were smugglers, caught as they entered Egyptian waters. But could it be that the Islamists from <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/libya\" title=\"View all posts in Libya\">Libya</a> were behind this action?</p> \n  <p>More recently, it was announced that an Egyptian military brigadier-general has been killed, and at least two other soldiers injured in a drive-by shooting in the suburb city of Abu Zaabal in the Qalubiya, north of Cairo. The assassination came after security forces have arrested more than 100 people in advance of planned anti-government demonstrations called by the Egyptian Salafist front for Friday, November 28. Local media reports of multiple bombs have been defused in Fayoum and Alexandria. In Suez, reports indicate gunmen opened fire on the Judges’ Club, while a bomb explosion led to the suspension of the Zagazig-Ismailiya train line.</p> \n  <p>The rising tension is also part of the preparation for acts of violence that might occur on Friday, as the Egyptian Salafist front is calling for protests on Friday November 28, calling on people to take to the streets.</p> \n  <p>As it seems, Egypt is already involved in a “full-fledged war” against Islamist groups. President al-Sisi expanded his anti-terrorism campaign&nbsp;to enforce brutal crackdowns on the Muslim Brotherhood opposition. The Egyptian government actually declared the group a terrorist organization earlier this year — but Egypt is still facing an escalation of extremist activity.</p> \n  <p>The Libyan civil war to the west and the allure of the Islamic State group have fuelled Egypt’s own militant groups and made the country vulnerable&nbsp;to spillover from the region’s other conflicts.&nbsp;A major conflict is evolving in northern Sinai, close to the Hamas-<a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/gaza\" title=\"View all posts in Gaza\">Gaza</a> border and Israel. The lawless mountainous centre of Sinai Peninsula has for years been a hotbed for radical Islamists and a safe-house for a weapons arsenal hidden in the caves.</p> \n  <img src=\"http://defense-update.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/buffer_zone_sinai725.jpg\" alt=\"As part of its effort to separate Sinai from the influence of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Egyptian military is creating a buffer zone between the Gaza strip and Northern SInai, in an effort to eliminate most of the tunnels linking Gaza with Sinai.\" width=\"725\" height=\"247\" />As part of its effort to separate Sinai from the influence of Hamas in the \n  <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/gaza\" title=\"View all posts in Gaza\">Gaza</a> Strip, Egyptian military is clearing a ‘sterile’ buffer zone, by evacuating the population and demolishing all buildings in a 1000 meter wide strip strebetween the \n  <a href=\"http://defense-update.com/tag/gaza\" title=\"View all posts in Gaza\">Gaza</a> strip and Northern SInai, in an effort to eliminate most of the tunnels linking Gaza with Sinai. \n  <p>Located between the Suez Canal and the Arabian Peninsula, the Sinai Peninsula is geographically isolated, but virtually links key states of&nbsp;Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. Owing to its geo-political importance, it was a battleground in every war between Egypt and Israel, from 1948 until 1973.</p> \n  <p>The 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel returned Sinai to Egypt, with a substantially limited Egyptian presence and international military supervision.&nbsp;These have undoubtedly played a significant role in turning this large peninsula into a buffer zone that has helped to prevent large-scale Egyptian-Israeli military confrontations for more than 30 years.</p> \n  <p>Egyptian officials, including the country’s foreign minister, have acknowledged that coordination exists between Islamic State and other militant groups, including some inside Egypt. The country has faced growingIslamist insurgent activity, since the army toppled President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood last year. Tempers rise constantly, as the Brotherhood and other Islamic factions issue&nbsp;calls for unrest.</p> \n  <p>Bagdadi’s &nbsp;“Islamic State” called for some of these attacks, urging Sinai insurgents to press ahead with violence against Egyptian security forces. “Rig the roads with explosives for them. Attack their bases. Raid their homes. Cut off their heads. Do not let them feel secure,” Islamic State spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani said in a statement to Egyptian militants released online. Following suit, the Sinai-based militant group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis has already beheaded seven Egyptians since August.</p> \n  <p>Sisi, who as army chief led Morsi’s ouster following protests against his rule, has expressed his concerns about militant Islamist activity in Egypt and the Middle East. He has backed Washington’s call for global action to counter the threat from Islamic State. However, Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri has stated that Cairo might not provide direct military assistance to the United States in&nbsp;its battle against the group, saying that the army was fully focused on the home front. The challenge of containing militancy has become more complex since Islamic State militants have expanded their influence by&nbsp;declaring a caliphate in the area, inspiring other militant groups, including some based along Egypt’s border with chaotic Libya, though Egyptian security forces had appeared to be making some progress against Islamist insurgents in Sinai over recent weeks. The Ansar commander said pressure from the army had forced some fighters to flee the area for other places inside Egypt.</p> \n  <p>This wave of terrorism is not foreign to the Sinai Peninsula, which witnessed massive terrorist attacks in 2004 and 2006. But, currently, the conditions in Sinai have become highly volatile, with attacks and bombings occurring on a regular basis. This calls for determined action by the Egyptian military, requiring Israel’s agreement, to a temporary adjustment of the of the Egyptian military limitations of the 1979 Peace Agreement.</p> \n  <p>ISIS is also recruiting members in Egypt itself—and rather successfully. In October, an ISIS recruitment cell comprised of eight members was uncovered in the City of Port Said. In an off-the-record conversation with an Egyptian official, a foreign author was informed that no fewer than 5,000 Egyptians, most of whom are radical Salafis, are now fighting in Syria.</p> \n  <p>Similar to Egyptians fighting with the Mujahideen in Afghanistan and returning to Egypt, the regime could soon face a serious problem with radicalized Egyptians returning from Syria and Iraq with the intention of carrying out domestic terror attacks.</p> \n  <p>The flow of Egyptian fighters to Syria should come as no surprise. Under the previous regime, President Mohamed Morsi encouraged Egyptians to participate in the jihad in Syria against the Assad regime.</p> \n  <p>The flow obviously did not stop once Morsi was ousted. Last month, ISIS claimed that a former&nbsp;Egyptian police officer had died in one of its sponsored suicide attacks inside Iraq. This shows that ISIS’s sphere of influence in Egypt has become wider. According to a survey conducted by the Fikra Forum Project of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, 3% of Egyptians (some 2.5 million) already support ISIS.</p> \n  <p>Yet, despite its unwillingness to get involved directly in military operations beyond its borders, Egypt can still contribute logistics, intelligence, and ideological support to the anti-ISIS conflict.</p> \n  <p>Logistically, Egypt can revitalize the military relationship it previously had with the United States by allowing coalition members to use Egyptian air space and by expediting coalition-related traffic through the Suez Canal.</p> \n  <p>From the intelligence perspective, Egypt has a long history of confronting terrorist organizations, both domestically and abroad. Those of us who supported the War in Iraq and the War on Terror, made it adamantly clear that our reasoning was simple, we kill them NOW instead of dealing with them later. \n  <br /> \n  <br /> You were repeatedly warned of the dangers in ignoring the threat of radical Islamic terrorism, and you would have no part of it. Nothing was going to do until you ended the war and destroyed Bush. So we abandoned the War on Terror, we abandoned the few people over there who were helping us build democracy and restore peace, and we moved toward your policies of appeasement and diplomacy. Now we're paying the price for not eliminating the threat when we had the chance. \n  <br /> \n  <br /> Where are the WMDs? Well it turns out they were in Syria, where Saddam's WMD technology is currently being deployed. Actual chem/bio weapons have short shelf life, but the technology is what was important and it all went to Syria. \n  <br /> \n  <br /> Radical Islam is not a joke. It wasn't something to take lightly. It certainly wasn't something that should have been turned into a political football for the purpose of bringing down a president. But.... that's our history in this country!
