Using node with Debian and Ubuntu

Using node with Debian and Ubuntu.

If installed using nvm, the following package still needs to be installed to avoid node-gyp rebuild errors when installing some packages.

sudo apt-get install -y build-essential

See https://github.com/nodesource/distributions/blob/master/OLDER_DISTROS.md for using Node >= 4.x => sudo apt-get install -y gcc-4.8 g++-4.8

If an update version of node-gyp is needed inside current version of npm see the following, https://github.com/nodejs/node-gyp/wiki/Updating-npm%27s-bundled-node-gyp

npm explore npm -g -- npm install node-gyp@latest

Ubuntu Mate for Raspbery pi appears to need clang installed or node-gyp rebuild errors will occur with some libraries.
