Adding Reference Sections or Footnotes in GitHub Markdown

GitHub Markdown doesn't really support reference links and footnotes. This makes creating reasonable References sections a bit more complicated.

A link to Some BBC article (actually just google).

Another link to a book on Testing with RSpec that tries to replicate the formatting of Wikipedia.^[2]

Reference Material

The second part of the reference link has to be separated by at least one line from the reference itself.
