This macOS error occurs when Gatekeeper flags an app that hasn't been notarized by Apple or was downloaded outside the Mac App Store. StarUML is safe, but macOS places it into "quarantine."

  1. Open the Terminal app (press Cmd + Space, type "Terminal", and press Enter).
  2. Type the following command, leave a space at the end, but do not press Enter yet

sudo xattr -cr

  1. Open Finder, go to your Applications folder, and drag the StarUML app directly into your Terminal window (this auto-fills the file path).
  • The final command will look like this:

sudo xattr -cr /Applications/StarUML.app

  1. Press Enter. You will be prompted for your Mac administrator password (letters won't show as you type). Enter it and press Enter again.

Once completed, close Terminal and double-click StarUML to launch it normally.
