CrimsonDesert-Keybinds+Interactions

Preamble

Crimson Desert has the most complex K+M inputs I've ever experienced in my 30+ years of gaming (outside of simulator-style games). This situation is able to be fixed, but I doubt the developers would change their entire control scheme (I'm hoping for a mod to be created). This post is simply to outline K+M controls and some information around those controls/interactions. I've created this because I wanted to change the control scheme for myself, but trying keep track of all the interactions affected by changing a key was madness. I based some of the table style/columns off of this guide, but that guide has errors and inaccuracies.

Default Keybinds

Notes:

  • When changing keybinds, all actions must be bound to a key before the keybinds can be applied.
  • Each section cannot contain two actions bound to the same key.

Settings Column (⚙)

  • ✅: Indicates that the binding exists within the Settings menu.
  • ❌: Indicates that the action exists in the game, but it cannot be rebound.

Input Types

  • Press: A simple, quick press-and-release of a key.
    • If succeeded by (Toggle), this means a subsequent Press deactivates the action.
    • Double Press: Requires two Press in rapid succession to activate.
  • Long Press: A duration-based press-and-release, usually shown in the UI via a progress bar around the button icon.
  • Hold: A press that is required to continue to be held for the action to stay activated.
    • Release: The state when a Hold is released. This deactivates the action.
  • Chord Press: A combination of buttons that all need Press simultaneously for activation.
  • Motion/Scroll: Specific to moving the mouse and scrolling the scroll wheel.

Modes

Modes are character states that can dramatically modify interaction with the environment. Below are the major modes that I've experienced in the game (so far). There are also minor modes, such as crouching, flying, swimming, using the lantern, using certain skills, etc. The minor modes generally augment the major modes.

{NeutralMode}

Description: The default character state. No other modes are active.

{WeaponMode}

Description: The character state while a weapon is not stowed. Weapons do not include ranged weapons.

Weapons include:

  • One Handed Weapons + Shield
  • Dual Weapons
  • Two Handed Swords
  • Spears
  • Fists

Attack interactions:

  • LMB Light Attack Press only activates {WeaponMode} (no light attack).
  • RMB Heavy Attack Press activates {WeaponMode} and performs a heavy attack.
  • LMB Light Attack Hold will continue light attacks indefinitely.
  • RMB Heavy Attack Hold will only heavy attack until a single heavy attack sequence is completed.
  • LMB Light Attack does not consume stamina.
  • RMB Heavy Attack consumes stamina.

{RangeMode}

Description: The character state that allows use of ranged weapons.

Notes:

  • This mode is toggled on/off via Q: Aim Press.
  • You cannot toggle this mode off with T: Stow Weapon Press.
  • The prompt actions during this mode depend on ranged skills acquired.
  • Precision Aim is a default prompt action, activated by Tab: Skill: Axiom Force Press (Toggle).

{InteractMode}

Description: The character state that allows aiming (pointing) via Mouse Move View Motion at particular elements of the environment.

Note: This is represented by a blue or red circle, depending on what is being pointed to. For example, a blue circle on ores will indicate they can be mined while a red circle indicates they cannot be mined.

Interactions:

  • Ctrl/M4 Aim/Guard/Focus Light Hold in {NeutralMode} is required to activate and maintain {InteractMode}.
  • Ctrl/M4 Aim/Guard/Focus Light Hold while in {WeaponMode} will guard/block with shield.
  • Ctrl/M4 Aim/Guard/Focus Light Hold while Skill: Blinding Flash is active will activate Focus Light.
    • The sequence of inputs to activate Focus Light is as follows:
      1. The Ctrl/M4+LMB Chord Press activates Skill: Blinding Flash.
      2. Continue LMB Hold while Ctrl/M4 Release.
      3. Ctrl/M4 Hold now activates and maintains Focus Light.
  • {InteractMode} will modify most Long Press prompt actions to become Press prompt actions.
    • For example, [Take] for picking up items goes from E Interaction 1 Long Press to E Interaction 1 Press.
  • {InteractMode} usually adds additional actions to prompts.

Examples of {InteractMode}-specific actions:

  • [Identify]: Mouse Move View Motion pointing toward an unidentified target.
    • Pointing must be maintained on the target until the identification gauge is filled.
  • [Precision Jump]: Space: Jump Press pointing toward a short-range, jumpable location.
  • [Kick]: F: Punch/Kick Press pointing toward the ground.

Interaction Table

This table is provides some examples of the contextual interactions within Crimson Desert. This helps give context to keybinds when you want to change them for yourself. This table is not intended to be exhaustive. For someone to make an exhaustive document, they should datamine the game as there are an incredible amount of contextual interactions.
