Mentee: Define the Relationship (DTR) Prep

To start this assignment:

  1. Click the button in the upper right-hand corner that says Fork. This is now your copy of the document.
  2. Click the Edit button when you're ready to start adding your answers.
  3. To save your work, click the green button in the bottom right-hand corner. You can always come back and re-edit your gist.

Please use the following gist to capture your thoughts, goals, priorities, etc. as outlined by each question. You will be using these questions to help give your mentor a better idea of who you are and want to become as a developer! Please note, this is meant to be a starting point for building your norms with your mentor - you may need to adjust scheduling expecations, communication expectations, etc. when you start working with your mentor!

  1. What did you do before Turing?
  • Server/Bartender/Sommolier
  1. What made you decide to come to Turing?
  • Was told by many graduates of Galvanize, this was the best school. I've been wanting to do a coding program for years. I wanted to start keeping more normal hours, and gain more financial freedom.
  1. What are you most excited about exploring in your career in tech?
  • A complete reformation of my life structure. I was beginning to tire myself out with the late nights, long hours on my feet. Looking forward to keeping more normal hours as well becoming more financially sound!

Scheduling Details

Please review the Mod 1 calendar for FE or BE when answering the following questions.

  1. What are your preferred times of day to connect with your mentor? (Early evening, lunch, etc.)
  • Early evening would be ideal. That could help me to digest some thoughts from the school day with my mentor.
  1. What are your known scheduling restrictions? (Family obligations, life obligations, etc.)
  • None.

Communication

  1. What is your preferred method to connect with your mentor? (Slack? Email? Text?)
  • All of the above work. Slack/Text are probably best. Zoom too.
  1. What is your preferred cadence for communication? Twice a week? Weekly?
  • Twice/week would be ideal.
  1. What time frame can you commit to acknowledging you have seen a message if you are too busy to send a detailed response?
  • 1-2 hours.
  1. What time frame can you commit to sending a detailed response to a message when time permits?
  • 2-4 hours.

Specific Support Requests

  1. What are the your technical strengths and areas for desired improvement?
  • Fast with typing. Gaining a better understanding of terminal commands as well as keyboard shortcuts would be great!
  1. Is there any specific technical topic that we should focus on this inning?
  • None at the moment.
  1. Are there any topics from last inning that we should focus on reviewing?
  • The concepts from section 4 of our mod 1 prework mostly.

Concerns for this Inning

  1. Do you have anything that your mentor should be aware of? (upcoming life events, concerns about the upcoming curriculum, job hunt, etc)
  • None at the moment.
  1. What do I need when I get overwhelmed?
  • To step away from the computer and reintroduce myself to the task at hand with a fresh mind.
  1. Who are your supports and resources for this inning?
  • Parents as well as other coders in the field.
