Deploy to `gh-pages` from a `dist` folder on the master branch. Useful for use with [yeoman](http://yeoman.io).

Deploying a subfolder to GitHub Pages

Sometimes you want to have a subdirectory on the master branch be the root directory of a repository’s gh-pages branch. This is useful for things like sites developed with Yeoman, or if you have a Jekyll site contained in the master branch alongside the rest of your code.

For the sake of this example, let’s pretend the subfolder containing your site is named dist.

Step 1

Remove the dist directory from the project’s .gitignore file (it’s ignored by default by Yeoman).

Neat little trick to gain access to full lessons on study.com without a paid membership
Uncensoring study.com lessons is actually pretty simple- it only requires devling into the developer-tools in Google Chrome
NOTE: This trick only unblocks the lesson transcripts, I haven't explored getting access to the full lesson video yet.
Here are the steps:
1. Go to a lesson of choice on study.com and open the developer-tools in Chrome (example URL:
http://study.com/academy/lesson/root-cap-function-definition-quiz.html)
2. Use the page inspector tool and select the "Lesson Transcript" text. Confirm that in the Elements tab of the dev tools,
the line "<span>Lesson Transcript</span>" is highlighted (should be under a div that has the id "transcriptHeader")
3. Hit the dropdown triangles of "<div class="transcriptContainer articleContent" data-cname="main_content>" and
<div id="mainArticle" class="transcript" data-cname="lesson_transcript"> (the latter should appear after the contents of

Comparison of features in various Markdown flavors

Comparison of syntax extensions in Markdown flavors

I created a crude comparison of the syntax of the various common Markdown extensions to have a better view on what are the most common extensions and what is the most widely accepted syntax for them. The list of Markdown flavors that I looked at was based on the list found on CommonMark's GitHub Wiki.

Beethoven Moonlight Sonata played by Sonic Pi. Uses Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra samples. See readme for availablilty. Video at https://youtu.be/8rdJ9wxGw5Y

The Sonic Pi file moonlightSonata-RF.rb which plays Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement requires the use of the Grand Piano samples from the Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra produced by Matthias Westlund.

Unfortunately this is no longer available from his website https://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/ However there is an alternative available at https://github.com/peastman/sso from where you can download the library. It is coverd by a https://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/ Download and expand on your Desktop, or other suitable location and then set the link in the program at line 9 appropraitely for your installation.

The file should be run using the run_file "/path/to/file/location" command as it is too long to run from a Sonic Pi buffer.

An alternative version using the built in piano synth in Sonic Pi is included for comparison.

Archive.org Scanned Book Downloader Bookmarklet

Archive.org Scanned Book Downloader Bookmarklet

A simple "1-click" javascript approach to downloading a scanned book from archive.org to read at your leisure on the device of your choosing w/out having to manually screenshot every pages of the book by hand. In short it's a glorified "Save Image As..." approach but consolidated down to "1 click". BTW there may be a much better option than this out there - I just built this as an autistic project to see if it would work.

By using this script you agree to delete all book files/images after your 1 hour or 14 days is up! I don't support using this script for any other use cases. After all, none of us have ever kept a library book past it's return date, right?

Mermaid on Github Examples

All of these diagrams are dynamically rendered during html display by Github, the images generated from text inside the Github-Flavored Markdown. None are static images. Mermaid support was released for Github on 2022-02-14

Pros & Cons:

  • Pro: You don't need to care about the layout.
  • Con: You cannot control the layout.

Notes:

  • Not all the features of Mermaid (in particular symbols B--&gt;C[fa:fa-ban forbidden], hyperlink and tooltips) are supported by Github.
