Github markdown colors (Using Tex and the github MathJax support)

Small warning for everyone that are thinking if using Tex colors is a good idea or not

  • 2023-05-02 - Since a few days ago \colorbox and \fcolorbox are broken and Github did't talk about if it's a temporary thing or if it will not be added back.
    • 2024-01-04 - Since it has not being added back I deduce that it will never be so I removed all mentions to it on the rest of the gist.
  • 2023-09-29 - Tex seems to not work on h1 to h6 anymore (markdown #'s)
    • 2024-01-04 - Now it works again, I'll keep the message for a while to remember that it may change again in the future

As you can se with the above message(s) Tex may not be very stable and may not be an option to you as of the dates expressed above. You can also check other tex problems here.

Github released Tex support and colors* to the markdown and you din't realized

Debloating LDPlayer

Inspired by this

More of my guides: Debloating MEMu - Debloating Nox (Updated)

This mainly applies to LDPlayer9. They will probably work on the low end options (like LDPlayer5) but not guaranteed.

Debloating LDPlayer

This emulator seems to have less stability issues than MEMu. I think we get the shtick that these emulators do spooky stuff.

  1. Download LDPlayer, preferably an offline version from the version history

Mermaid on Github Examples

Mermaid on Github Examples

All of these diagrams are dynamically rendered during html display by Github, the images generated from text inside the Github-Flavored Markdown. None are static images. Mermaid support was released for Github on 2022-02-14

Pros & Cons:

  • Pro: You don't need to care about the layout.
  • Con: You cannot control the layout.

Notes:

  • Not all the features of Mermaid (in particular symbols B-->C[fa:fa-ban forbidden], hyperlink and tooltips) are supported by Github.

Archive.org Scanned Book Downloader Bookmarklet

Archive.org Scanned Book Downloader Bookmarklet

A simple "1-click" javascript approach to downloading a scanned book from archive.org to read at your leisure on the device of your choosing w/out having to manually screenshot every pages of the book by hand. In short it's a glorified "Save Image As..." approach but consolidated down to "1 click". BTW there may be a much better option than this out there - I just built this as an autistic project to see if it would work.

Beethoven Moonlight Sonata played by Sonic Pi. Uses Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra samples. See readme for availablilty. Video at https://youtu.be/8rdJ9wxGw5Y

The Sonic Pi file moonlightSonata-RF.rb which plays Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement requires the use of the Grand Piano samples from the Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra produced by Matthias Westlund.

Unfortunately this is no longer available from his website https://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/ However there is an alternative available at https://github.com/peastman/sso from where you can download the library. It is coverd by a https://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/ Download and expand on your Desktop, or other suitable location and then set the link in the program at line 9 appropraitely for your installation.

The file should be run using the run_file "/path/to/file/location" command as it is too long to run from a Sonic Pi buffer.

An alternative version using the built in piano synth in Sonic Pi is included for comparison.

Comparison of features in various Markdown flavors

Comparison of syntax extensions in Markdown flavors

I created a crude comparison of the syntax of the various common Markdown extensions to have a better view on what are the most common extensions and what is the most widely accepted syntax for them. The list of Markdown flavors that I looked at was based on the list found on CommonMark's GitHub Wiki.
