Damaged Circle summary mini; Context: Tisiri is a new player. Note that a this point, Hidden, Maria, Marruk and Snow are the only other PCs. Every other mentioned character is an NPC.
-*- Tisiri stuck around in the opulent office in the vast mansion, long after most of the others whom she met had vanished. She remains leaning against the table she perched against, moving her hands in the air in front of her, in what might appear to be arcane gestures (or the flailings of madness,) except to someone perceptive enough to determine that she moves her hands with a purpose, and is not channeling essence by doing so
<Tisiri> "This is quite a complicated web I've fallen into," she murmurs. "Would you mind terribly much answering questions I have, giving me a briefing on the situation at hand?"
<Hidden> The alchemical shrugged, soulgem and false skin still hidden by her charms. "Depends on the question. What do ya want to know?"
<Tisiri> "I'm trying to figure out the players in this intrigue I've stumbled into." She points to Hidden. "Why don't we start with you? Who are you; what's your interest in this, and what don't you mind telling me about your capabilities?"
<Hidden> "I work for Order, that's all you need to know." She said, voice ice cold. "Under the Queen of Spies, is about all I'm gonna share. My interest? Is that these crazy cultists are converting the Populat too, and are gonna make a massive mess if not stopped."
<Tisiri> "Order?" Tisiri raises her eyebrow. "Wasn't that third of this island settled by several different colonies from different Nations?"
<Hidden> "...you're Autocthonian, and you aren't even -sure- about the name of your own people's colony here. Brilliant, you ARE new..." She said with a sigh. "Yes."
<Tisiri> "Yes, I am new here. I've spent rather a lot of time in Creation - and even stranger places - steadfastly ignoring Autochthonia, then I went back to see... Someone special. Then things happened and I decided it was time for me to leave again and I decided to go somewhere that I had only heard the most brief of information on."
<Hidden> "Course. Whatever: Yes, Order is the Autocthonian side of this island. And the Queen of Spies is the Metropolis in charge of recon and infiltration."
<Tisiri> "And once I got here... Well, I've spent six months just flying around, ducking Regulators, and trying to keep to myself as much as possible, then I hit on the brilliant idea of flying to the Demon side."
<-- Lirio ([email protected]) has quit (Quit: Drink and the Devil have done with the rest)
-*- Tisiri nods. "Queen of spies. Hell of a name, no wonder I've had a bit of a tough time going unnoticed like I usually do." She grins. "So then, have the metropoli and patropli on the Order side banded together? They'd rather be enough of them to count as their own Nation, I suspect, if that were the case."
-*- Hidden shrugged. "Banded together? It's one big city, can't even tell where each one ends. 12 total."
-*- Tisiri nods, frowning slightly, but nodding. "I see, I see." She looks thoughtful for a moment. "And whose mansion is this, again? Maria, right?"
<Hidden> "Maria Mondragon, yes. Daughter of one of the Fae faction leaders around here."
-*- Tisiri nods, twice. "I see, I see. And her interest in this, as far as you can tell?"
<Hidden> "She's working with Marruk, and he was called in by a faction opposing them. So, politics mainly."
<Tisiri> "Opposing the cult, or opposing her father's faction?"
<Hidden> "The cult. Something about the faction it's in usually not letting religious types get into their government, and they're messing that up."
-*- Tisiri nods, slowly. "Right, right... So, Maria - what is she, as far as you know? What's she capable of?"
<Hidden> "Solar. Past that? I don't like giving out strengths and weaknesses to near strangers."
-*- Tisiri snorts softly. "Right... And Marruk - the one who brought Maria into this? What about him? His interest in this is based in his affiliation with a faction that wants to keep the cultists out of the governance of the area, right?"
<Hidden> "Close enough. As I said, politics. should be good to get his own faction more leverage."
-*- Tisiri nods. "I see, I see." She tisks with her tongue a few times. "And what is he, then?"
<Hidden> "Lunar." Ah, what a wellspring of information Hidden was. "Or did ya miss the tattoos?"
<Tisiri> "I did, actually." Tisiri frowns at that.
<Tisiri> "And his relationship with Maria? Just allies of convienance in this matter?
<Hidden> "Can't say. They've been working together since before I got here."
-*- Tisiri nods again, twice. "I see, I see. Fair enough. And Snow - I think her full name is Ardent Snowfall, right?"
<Hidden> "Right. Also 'allies of convenience' there, I suppose." she sighed, leaning back a bit. "Ok, long story short? We're getting rid of this cult because it's a danger to everyone on the island NOT in it if they get too powerful. Since, ya know, they refuse to work. Are you in, or out?"
<Tisiri> "I was in the moment that cold bitch all but said she was a Voidbringer by name." Tisiri meets Hidden's eyes, hard. "I was just trying to determine if your social club was up to the same ends."
<Tisiri> "But it's not easy being Jeiny-come-lately to a dance complicated. That's why I'm picking your brains - I need to catch up, fast."
<Hidden> "...Voidbringer, right. Yeah, I highly doubt that. At least, not the Void you're thinking of."
<Tisiri> "She's worshipping something or someone who intends to see the Maker destroyed. Even with an heretically liberal definition of Voidbringer, that fits."
-*- Hidden shrugged again. "Maybe, maybe not. I don't much care to be honest. The cult is a pain, but their mistress's actions are totally disconnected from them as far as I can tell."
<Tisiri> "Besides, the end of all things includes me. I rather like me. I like a few people I know even more than that, and the planes are full of people, at least some of whom I'm going to wind up liking, so I can't tolerate that."
<Tisiri> me frowns, and steeples her fingers together, tapping her fingertips. "Do great cosmic entities do anything without a reason?... Well, I suppose sometimes they do; do you really suspect capriciousness, or distraction, to be the purpose of this cult?"
--> DrakeRaids ([email protected]) has joined #damagedcircle
<Hidden> "Whatever, so you're willing to help one way or another. For now? I'd suggest looking for info on their 'Great Mother' among the demons in the city. At least one group I've run into worships her too, and they might know a bit more than her mortal pawns here."
-*- Tisiri nods. "I'm pretty good at looking into things. Not magnificently so, but I'm good enough to get a start on it..."
<Tisiri> "But you never answered my question about Snow, except to confirm that her full name is Ardent Snowfall. What is she - who is she, what's her interest in this that you know?"
<Hidden> "Not a clue. She somehow gets her powers from the Yozi, but as far as I can tell she ain't working to help them in any way."
-*- Tisiri frowns, strongly, at that, but nods. "I see..."
-*- Tisiri licks her lips. "That cultist, the priestess one, the loudmouth with the knife and stabbing. What's her name? What do we know about her?"
<Hidden> "Ivy. She's married to the head of the faction, and doesn't seem to be lying about her intentions. Problem being, they're completely insane."
-*- Tisiri nods, and looks down. "She's not human. Whatever she is, she's cold - like a corpse, the temperature of the environment around her."
<Hidden> "Oh, that? She's dead. All the priestesses are. Ghosts possessing a corpse."
-*- Tisiri makes a snarling face of disgust. "That's... Problematic."
<Hidden> "Tell me about it. And any attempt to read their minds gets blocked by the primordial in charge."
<Tisiri> "Even more problematic." Tisiri drums her fingers together. "I don't have any way to destroy that kind of unleashed soul. I think there's one I can learn, but not soon... There may be artifacts that could do the same as well - I wonder if you could trap her in a soulgem? I think there's also a kind of crystal in Creation that works, but I don't know if it occurs here."
<Hidden> "I think Marruk can kill them, but he'd end up sparking a war thanks to his position."
<Tisiri> "And just killing the body won't actually get rid of her, I assume?"
<Hidden> "Would get rid of her political position, but I'm sure she could find another corpse."
<Tisiri> "Damn... I hate things that don't die if you just shoot them between the eyes." Tisri sighs. "Wonderful. This is going to be Complicated..... So, about that woman with the boils, the one who stopped me from giving Ivy a demonstration of Live Wire Style?"
<Tisiri> "She said she was Friend Computer. What the hell is she, what's her deal?"
<Hidden> "Champion. Commissioned by Reflection's husband at some point, but I don't know her exact relationship with Order at the moment. Her 'real' name is 23."
<Tisiri> "A number? That's... Not any Alchemical designation I've ever heard of." Tisiri frowns. "And who is Reflection?"
<Hidden> "The woman who stormed out of here after I mentioned suffering. She's... Unstable, to say the least."
-*- Tisiri nods. "She strikes me as profoundly wrong, like a walking... Thing-that-should-not-be."
<Tisiri> "But then, there's a lot of that going around lately."
<Hidden> "Well, wrong or not, she's an Elder. I'd just try not to piss her off."
<Tisiri> "What is she - Reflection, that is? I know she did something profoundly Unholy back at that cult sanctum." She nods, frowning. "What's her interest in all of this?"
<Hidden> Another shrug. "Abyssal, harbingers of the end of the world or something. In her case, we're just lucky she's -bored- of killing things. Also, she hates suffering."
-*- Tisiri frowns, and quickly pulls her arm back, lifting it high, her fingers working as if she were pressing buttons on a workstation console, but of course, there's nothing there. Then she drags her hand back, in front of her, frowning as her eyes flick up and down, as if reading a document in front of her.

-*- Tisiri sighs, rubbing her eyes, under her glasses. "Abyssal... Just wonderful. They're basically death-aspected copies of me... That bodes... Ominiously," she says. "Is she on our side, or... What?"
<Hidden> "She's on whichever side causes less suffering. Just... tread lightly, as I said, she's not sane."
-*- Tisiri sighs, and pinches her nose. "Great. So she's basically a misfiring plasma arc, could strike anybody."
<Tisiri> "Who was that short woman who was in here briefly? Lice, I think her name was?"
<Hidden> "Marruk's adoptive daughter."
-*- Tisiri nods. "I see, I see." She sighs, and nods. "Are there any other important players I've yet to meet that it wouldn't do to not know of should I run across them?"
<Hidden> "Of the top of my head? That's it. Well, apart from Reflection's daughter. She's much more stable though, works as a detective."
<Tisiri> "What's her name?"
<Hidden> "Shade Flower."
-*- Tisiri nods again. "I'm starting to get an idea of who's who."
<Tisiri> "So, the factions. Order. It's frankly almost unimaginable that twelve Metropoli, seeded by very different - and occasionally hostile - nations from Autochthonia have merged into one unified power bloc, but you say that to be so?"
<Hidden> "Close enough, yes. It isn't that odd: Common enemy. An Apostate by the name of 0 probably helpe them form together like that."
<Tisiri> "Isn't that odd?" Tisiri raises her eyebrow. "The only thing I recall in our history that bound all eight nations together as one was the time a maniacal something from the Far Reaches declared all-out war on Jarish."
<Hidden> "I take it you haven't heard: Order was the SECOND attempt to make a portal to Creation. The first one went wrong, the entire city went Apostate in the transfer."
<Tisiri> "No, I've got that, but..." She shakes her head. "Well, if you say so, I guess it's so. It just seems... Peculiar, to me; an alliance of nessessity is one thing, an actual lasting union seems strange. Still, I've got that. Ah, what were those twelve cities, again?"
<Hidden> (We've never actually gotten the names out of rms. :P So, assume she answers that one!)
<Tisiri> (Well, I know that at least one of them is the Queen of Spies.)
<Hidden> (Yeah, her and the Jack of Trades are all we know.)
<Hidden> (That, and that the others follow the same playing card naming scheme.)
<Tisiri> (That's frighteningly similar to Jack of Blades... Anyway, gotcha.)
<Tisiri> "And what of this side of the island? Chaos, then - lovely name. What are the power blocs here?"
<Hidden> "Frankly? I have no fucking clue. Ask Marruk, he keeps up with that better. Me, I can only name the top 5, and a couple others. Factions come and go faster than you can blink here."
-*- Tisiri nods. "Well, the top five would be a useful start."
<Tisiri> "And I don't suppose you have a good map of the island, do you?"
<Hidden> (Guess what! We don't know those names OOC either. :P Except from Sordathica.)
<Tisiri> (Heh, of course. :) what about the map - I assume there would be one in a mansion as well-equipped as this one.)
<Hidden> (Probably!)
<Tisiri> (MAP GET! Now I can Survival my way anywhere I need to go. :) )
<Tisiri> "And these Fae Factions, you mentioned them a few times. How do they fit in?"
<Hidden> "Same as the demon and human-run ones really. Hell, they might be nicer places to live, if you can be entertaining."
<Tisiri> "What territory do they occupy, if indeed, that can be meaningfully enumerated? Are they what's on that other third of the island?"
<Hidden> "The third part? Secret. I don't mean it is a secret, I mean it is literally a tower named that. No way in."
<Tisiri> "Imaginative naming conventions around here, aren't there?" She nods. "Okay, got that. And the Cult we're after, what do they call themselves?"
<Hidden> "No clue. The Cult of the Great Mother I guess? I haven't heard an official name."
-*- Tisiri nods. "Good enough, good enough."
<Tisiri> "And this Great Mother, what do we know of her?"
<Hidden> "she's a primordial. Claims the other primordials 'forgot' her or something, and claims responsibility for the Neverborn's ability to cling to life. No idea how much of that is true."
<Tisiri> "Right, right..." Tisiri tisks, and frowns. "Lovely. This is rather more complicated than I like things, but being able to see everything together, I'm getting a sense of the important things."
-*- Hidden nodded. "Yeah, it's quite a mess. fortunately, doesn't seem to be a PRESSING issue, so we have plenty of time to plan."
<Tisiri> "Still, problematic. Do you have a plan yet? I'm guessing that all-out open attacks on this cult don't seem to be in the cards, with 'Friend Computer' and Reflection opposed to that and evidently having the power to make that uncomfortable?"
<Hidden> "Not yet. I could try any of a number of things, but I'd rather learn a bit more before blowing our hand."
-*- Tisiri nods, and frowns. "Well, we know the priestesses seem to be immune to supernatural mind-reading... What about more traditional interrogations?"
<Hidden> "No idea. Haven't captured one."
-*- Tisiri grins. "Shouldn't be too hard." She reaches down to her hips, laying her hands on the coiled-up, handle-equipped braids of wire she wears on her belt.
<Hidden> "Well, good luck I suppose. If you can catch one, Maria is pretty good at the interrogation side of it."
<Tisiri> "Catching is easy. The hard part will be the silencing and the transporting."
-*- Hidden shrugged. "Well, we'll see what happens if you can get one back here."
<Tisiri> "I'm saying that I'd need an acomplice," Tisiri points out.
<RobinStamer> (Point of note Friend Computer's interest was explicitly stated as discovering wether or not she should be investing effort into nuking the cult, this was in a private discussion with Hidden)
<Hidden> "If you want my help, you're going to have to wait a while. I've got some other leads to follow up on for now. Most importantly, figuring out the heck this thing does." The dagger she'd stolen from Ivy was suddenly in her hand as she spoke.
-*- Tisiri nods, frowning at the dagger. "Fair enough." She looks out the window, and sighs. "I guess I should have a look around on my own, see what I can find."
