Hi everyone, | |
The way to sign up to come to sessions has changed. The registrations for Codebar Brighton have been integrated into the main Codebar.io website so that each time we have a session you will get an email invite with the session details, you then just need to click 'attending' if you are able to attend.
This will make things a lot easier because we won't need to make a new ti.to page for each session and you won't need to enter your details to sign up each time. It also means coaches can be easily displayed on the main site http://www.codebar.io/coaches to give some recognition :)
It does however mean you will need to spend a few minutes signing up on www.codebar.io, but you will only need to do this once. You can go back in and edit your details afterwards if you need to.
To sign up to Codebar you will need a Github account.
If you don't already have one then follow this link: https://github.com/ and sign up for a free account... this should only take a minute.
What is Github? | |
Github is something that developers can use for version control. This means that each time you make a change to your code, you can put that up on Github. If you break something in your program and need to look at what your code was like yesterday (for example) then you can just look back at it on Github, rather than attempting to save-as loads of copies of your file to your computer.
It is also used for multiple developers collaborating to work on the same code-base.
You do not have to use Github at Codebar, but we would recommend you put your work up there. Regardless of whether you choose to use it you will need to make an account to sign up to receive invites to the Codebar sessions!
You then need use your Github credentials to sign up on www.codebar.io.
Click on either 'Sign up as a student' or 'Sign up as a coach' and choose 'Brighton'.
The invitations are sent out a few times a day so don't worry if you don't receive one immediately after registering.
Our next workshop will be this Thursday (26th) from 18.30 – 21.00pm at The FuseBox powered by Wired Sussex.
Please note this is a different venue to where we were last time! The FuseBox is in New England House.
Directions: | |
If you're travelling down Trafalgar Street from Brighton train station, take a left at Bread and Milk and walk straight over the lights, about 50 metres past Sainsbury's you will see New England House (very tall white building) on your right.
At the main entrance (just right of the door) press 4 for Wired Sussex/The FuseBox and we will buzz you in.
Alternatively, go to London road. Go to Costa coffee (opposite Boots). Behind Costa is a street/hill that leads up to Sainsbury's and Subway. Walk us this hill, until you get to the little steps that lead up to the square with Sainsbury and Subway on. Do not go up the stairs, instead turn right and walk about 50 metres past Sainsbury's and you will see New England House.
If you get lost call 07533585885!
Neptik (http://www.neptik.com/) are kindly sponsoring the event through buying pizza. We will be sure to order more vegan pizza this time!
Even if you are unable to attend the workshop on Thursday, please sign up so that you receive invites to future workshops.
We also need to announce that this will be our last workshop running on a Thursday. In future we will be running workshops on Tuesdays. This is so not to clash with a Javascript event called Async when we start running workshops weekly. We hope this doesn't cause too much inconvenience.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask - email: [email protected]
Thanks, | |
Rosa and Ryan |
