What happens when you encounter a connection problem?
If your game displays a error message (e.g. Could not connect to backend server, Lost connection to Kane's Wrath Online, Could not establish a connection to online services, etc. etc,) when you try to log in or sometimes will just trying to access the multiplayer option are you most likely encountering a connection issue (in rare cases there is a different issue however that is isolated to RA3) that means that your game/system is unable to establish a connection to our game servers this can have multiple causes which im going to collect here together with solutions.
Assuming you are here becuase you already are experiencing a connection issue are we going to follow a checklist to see if everything is set up correctly
- Is your game Hooked properly?
- is your Firewall blocking the game or the C&C:Online launcher?¹
- To identify if your firewall is blocking the game do we need to check your firewall controls²
- Open Windows-Security
- Click on the Firewall & Network Protection field
- Click the “Allow an app through firewall” option.
- Click the Change settings button.
- Check the app to allow it through the Windows 11 firewall. you want to allow the Games .exe as well as the C&C:Online.exe on public and private networks 6.1 you will have to click the "Allow another app" button and see if you can locate the Games .dat
- after you are done click the "OK" button and the settings are now applied
- Are there any blocked ports on your system?
- Did the game set your IP correctly?
- you can check that in your games settings under "Network" usually the IP set there starts with 192.xx.xx (this can be different depending on your network) should the IP displayed there be vastly different check if you can select a different one or if you have any VPNSor tunnel services running
- In the same menu there is a option called "Send Delay" you can check that one and see if it helps (originally its use was to help for D-Link routers but we have observed it being able to help with different connections)
- Check for anomalies in connection
- If you are using a Hotspot or Homespot to connect to the internet you will have to use a VPN to connect the reason for that is that a hot/homespot will not be able to supply you with a static IPv4 adress that is required to play the Command and Conquer games most VPNs can produce such a adress or "mock" one that is usable for the games these usually start with 10.01 or similar 10.xx.xx adresses
- are you using weird set ups like complicated mesh set ups?, DS-Lite?, dial up with hand crank? these setups might cause interference with your conection if you are unsure if your set up might be the cause for your connection issues you can message Cervanthes on our Discord
Everything failed? or you dont feel like doing all that? you can directly try a VPN like Windscribe you can also try any other VPN provider just follow the same principle of the Windscribe guide-----> Windscribe is currently broken due to a recent change they did to their backend we now recommend Privado or Tunnelbar with the same principe than the Windscribe guide- not even a VPN helped you? Go ahead and message Cervanthes on our Discord
While there are a lot of solutions here might not all of them actually work for you or for the specific error you have eitherway read this and try it out for any form of connection error before making a Support post on our forum or discord ^^
¹: Generals and Zero Hour do not use the C&C:Online launcher they use Gentool which you can easily aqcuire here using Legis Genpatcher https://legi.cc/downloads/genpatcher/ ²: This guide assumes you are running windows 10/11 for Unix and Mac Systems please message Cervanthes for individual support
