A 12-hour, beginner-friendly 90’s-themed hackathon where everything goes. The 90's were a time of extreme advances in communication, information and digital technologies. Perhaps you will start a 1990’s internet company, ride the dot com bubble, shape an infant internet or revolutionize the communication world. Some might create an entertainment product for a 90’s console / computer / arcade machine, based on a pop cultural phenomenon. We just hope you invent something with the 90's in mind, and shape the future in a time of new beginnings.

Apply to UBC’s Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) Research Program
The Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) Research Program at UBC is a summer program designed to provide an interdisciplinary data science research experience for undergraduate and graduate UBC students. This program—hosted by the Data Science Institute at UBC—brings together students from diverse backgrounds to work closely with data providers and domain experts on focussed, collaborative projects that have the potential to benefit society. This program is open to full-time UBC students who have successfully completed 75 undergraduate credits, or enrolled in a graduate program at UBC.

BattleSnake Programming Competition
Date: Sat. March 2, 2019
Time: 9:00am - 8:00pm
Location: Victoria Conference Centre
The Battlesnake tournament is a multiplayer version of the classic arcade game Snake. Teams have the day to program their AI Snake and in the evening, each competes against multiple teams per round until one snake is left slithering. For information about the tournament check our website. Battlesnake has always been free to register. This year is the same! Registration includes lunch and a light dinner. Attend the 3rd Annual UBC Language Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference
This student-organized and run will be held on February 8th and 9th  at UBC, and is free to attend.
The goal of the conference is to create an opportunity for students to explore, through the work of their peers, language and communication research with an interdisciplinary perspective. Any undergraduate student working on language related topics is invited to apply, whether in Linguistics, Psychology, Computer Science, Applied Sciences, English, Language & Literacy Education, or any other field.

York CVR-VISTA Vision Science Summer School - June 3 - 7, 2019
The Centre for Vision Research (CVR) at York University in Toronto offers a one-week, all expenses-paid undergraduate summer school on vision science. The program includes talks by CVR faculty on current research topics in vision science, as well as hands-on experience in CVR laboratories. The curriculum reflects the wide range of research areas at CVR, which includes research on human visual perception, computer vision, machine learning, visual neuroscience, 3D film, immersive environments, and disorders of vision. The program is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in scientific research. We provide on-campus accommodations, some meals, and cover transportation costs.

Volunteers Needed for High School Hour of Code Workshop - Wed. Jan. 30
John Oliver Secondary School (530 E 41st Ave, Vancouver) is hosting the Career Day on Wed. Jan. 30 and is looking for volunteers to help kids learn coding at their Hour of Code workshops! Grade 8 and 9 students will be working on the Make a Flappy Game and Minecraft activities on the Code.org web site. Become a Technovation Mentor
Volunteering as a Technovation mentor is a great way to share your passion for computer science, and gain leadership and teaching experience. We are looking for dependable, responsible, enthusiastic people, preferably with a background in Computer Science, to help mentor teams of 2-5 girls in Grades 8-12 as they participate in the Technovation Challenge. The Technovation Challenge involves teams creating a mobile application that addresses a local problem in the community. The time commitment and schedule will be established by you and your team, but we encourage you to meet with your team weekly either online or in person. All undergraduates will be paired with another mentor (either from industry or a fellow undergraduate) so you can share this responsibility.

Reading Week Projects for Computer Science students
Looking for a break from the books this Reading Break? A 3-day project with an elementary school or non-profit organization can enable you to work in group settings, learn more about community issues, apply your academics in the real world, build lasting connections, and make a difference. Projects are from February 19th – 22nd, and there is a placement to match your interests and career goals. Project examples include half-day robotics and coding workshops for grade 5-7 students and short workshops to introduce children to makerspaces and the maker movement.
