- Directed Questions
-
Show of hands, how many of you have seen/heard of the show black mirror?
- I love how they take a concept of tech and play devil's advocate with the idea
-
Hyper-Reality is defined as having our complete natural world
- Blended with our artificially constructed world
-
Having Human intelligence in combination with AI tools and knowledge
-
So in the digital age we have had several technological breakthroughs that allow us to communicate with the digital world.
-
We had the computer (as large as a small room), the internet, smartphones, wearables like Google Glass
-
All of these devices and technologies help provide us with the tools to expand our knowledge of the world.
- Giving us the ability to solve global scale problems within our world.
- And maybe cause some problems here and there too...
-
Recently I watched a TED talk on a new device that allows us to interact with AI in an intuitive and not so intrusive way.
-
Inventor Arnav Kapur, knew that current implentations of Google Assistant, Alexa, and command line interface what not the most efficient nor accessible to everyone.
- Whether you're in a quite space and can't have a conversation with Alexa
- Or if you lack the physical ability to have these conversations with AI
-
Kapur researched possible usecases to account for disabilities.
- he found those who suffer from a stroke, als, and many other disabilities are working with really inefficient
- ways of not only communicating with tech, but with the world around them
-
He knew it was an issue that he was uniquely inclined to help solve
-
He invented AlterEgo,
-
Which takes user input from the electrical signals that your body creates in response to the process of trying to commincate by mouth.
-
And only collects data when the signals are deliberately sent.
-
The input is then processed by an AI from a device and is converted to a feedback response.
-
The response is given to the user through bone conductivity
-
-
AlterEgo is currently in use for running searches and commication assistance,
- But could certainly change how we one day interact with our artificial world
(if time permits)
-
In Sam Harris' article he brings up the progression of tech
- stating that:
-
Tech will always improve
-
Tech will always have value in the market
-
Full automation would change the entire game
-
Augmented Intelligence could be the normal
-
and the many ways it could be problematic
-
Those who control tech, would control the power
- Time to bring up those hard hitting Gear-up questions
1: If Augmented Intelligence became the new norm.
- What priveleges and or rights would the end user be expected to give up?
2: If you were on a team developing the hottest new tech for our hyper-reality,
- What would it be
- What data would need to be collected to provide such features.
3: Would AlterEgo, if implemented into our society like say Facebook
- would there be any sort of side effects that affect the population's mental health
