What particular skills, talents, or perspectives do you bring to a team?

  • I love the DOM, both in design and in rendering elements. Bringing a project together in a flow that the user can navigate easily and stress free is my goal!

  • Not only do I love the DOM but I also love bringing a team together and create an environment where we can all accomplish our best work.

  • I make it my mission to be understanding of those around me and I genuinly care about creating success together.

What have you learned about building software in teams?

  • Sometimes not everyone gets a chance to work on the big impactful code

  • My response to that though is the practice of code review and good communication

  • Which can make or break your skills as a developer.

  • We're all, always learning and the skills we learn from eachother are just as imortant.

What makes for a successful team? What derails a team?

  • Having the skills and the willingness to work together is not always a given.

  • Being able to encourage rich conversation among a group can greatly increase workflow and skills.

  • Whereas the lack of communication and wanting to only do things solo will undoubtedly lead to pitfalls.

What factors determined the success and quality of you group projects?

  • Encouraging working together in person is a good first step.

  • Being strict about Github Issues and Project Boards can help give a team the structure that it needs.

  • Code reviews is a great way to encourage skill growth amongst the group.

    • Asking meaningful questions on code, to better understand the decisions as to why the dev went that route, can help address both good and bad code.
    • While also bridging caps in your own understanding.

How will your experience in team projects influence your professional work?

  • I know that I will want to work in an environment that encourages and thrives on team values.

  • Being able to reach out to an actual person and communicate where we stand on a project, is something I really appreciate.

  • It leads to a better chance at successful communication (no miscommunication through text).

How will your gear up sessions impact you as a software engineer?

  • Unmasking Toxic Masculinity and challenges we will soon face with the growth of AI really resonate with me, and brought me new understandings.

  • Having the words to address Toxic Masculinity will help to assist me both in work and home to bring up the conversation. To allow everyone to grow in a healthy and sustainable way.

  • With the growth of AI it keeps a reminder in the back of my head that we need to make sure that we are still building tech that is accessible to ALL not just those of privelege.

    • Whether that means building tech for those lower in class or those with accessibility restrictions we need to make sure tech stays inclusive.
