Instead of using the git branch
porcelain command, and as a result having to parse its output, it might make more sense to use the following interrogator (ancillary git command) to get the name of the current branch:
def current_branch()
git rev-parse --abbrev-ref=strict HEAD
end
Thanks for posting this! Would you be so kind as to point me to the documentation for how to create a pre-commit hook?
Best,
Rafael
@RafaelCosman Place a file named pre-commit
with the above content under the folder .git/hooks/
in your local git clone.
Another option is to use git symbolic-ref --short HEAD
to obtain the name of the current branch. Tested on git 1.8.1 and it works just fine.
How about?
def current_branch
branch = `git rev-parse --abbrev-ref=strict HEAD 2>&1`
$?.success? ? branch.chomp : nil
end
