Twist vs. Slack (listed in no particular order whatsoever)

Twist

Pros

  • Threading (this is the big one)
  • "Inbox" feature, which compiles a list of every thread you are a part of
  • Much better search filtering

Cons

  • No support for code snippets
    • We'd have to use something like gist or pastebin, which is doable but annoying
  • No auto-snippeting of GitHub gists
  • No pasting of images copied to the clipboard (super annoying)
  • No Google Suite integration (Google Docs/Sheets/etc.)
  • Messaging is more clunky than Slack
    • No autocompletion of usernames or add-ons
    • Notification system requires manual intervention if you don't want to notify everyone in the thread (or vice versa, since it remembers your setting)
      • This is both a pro and a con, depending on the situation
    • Ctrl + Enter to send
      • On the other hand, this facilitates longer, more thought-out messages
    • No handy shortcut to edit your last sent message (maybe only I use this since I don't have super-high typing accuracy)
  • Poor add-on support
  • No custom emoji
  • Limited emoji reaction support
  • No theming
  • Newly released, still has small interface bugs

Last, but definitely not least:

  • Frustratingly, I have no idea how effective threading actually is, because pretty much nobody used Twist for the testing period. This is because nothing was going on with PHI, we should have picked a different project.

Slack

Pros

  • Has support for all of Twist's cons

Cons

  • No threading (this is the big one)
    • The sub-threading interface is awful
  • Very poor search filtering
