AlterConf speaker template
AlterConf <http://alterconf.com> is a traveling conference series focused on moving the discussions around diversity in tech & gaming industry beyond a 101 level. We've found the industries, much like larger society, want to artificially limit the discourse around topics of social justice. All of our speakers are marginalized people speaking from their own experience and expertise. We boast an incredibly diverse list of speakers with an amazingly wide variety of topics: alterconf.com/talks <http://alterconf.com/talks>
Every decision we make for AlterConf works to re-center marginalized people in our spaces - we offer free childcare, healthy meals sensitive to dietary and religious restrictions, live captioning and sign language interpreters, accessible venues on accessible public transit, sliding scale ticket prices starting at free, and accessible gender neutral bathrooms. We pay all of our speakers and freelancers because marginalized people are so often asked to do this work for free or for very little money. All of our vendors are local, owned by and employing marginalized people, and often unionized. AlterConf (and it's organizers) make no money off of our conferences intentionally - all money we raise goes directly back into the communities we visit, where we believe it can do the most good.
Cape Town is the first conference we're holding on the African continent and in the southern hemisphere. We're suuuuuper excited about it and would honored if you'd consider applying to speak.st <http://speak.st> didn't exist.
What other questions can I answer for you about AlterConf?
