A super simple recipe for a delicious Irish Stew from my Grandmother

Irish Stew Recipe

A very basic, but utterly delicious Irish Stew recipe my grandmother wrote up for me. Perfect on cold winters days, especially when served with bits of fresh crusty bread.

Note that this is pretty much types verbatim from the hand written copy she gave me, so if there are any issues let me know and I'll clarify them.

Ingredients

  • 1/2kg Diced Stewing Steak
  • Potatoes
  • Swede
  • Turnip
  • Carrot
  • Onion
  • Celery
  • Parsnip

Procedure

Put steak into saucepan with diced onion. Sprinkle with plain flour and cover with water. Bring to boil then add diced vegies. Any vegies can be used, as many or as few as you like. Note: Don't put potatoes in until an hour before using. Cut the potatoes only in half.

If needed, Thicken with Gravox at the end of cooking. Watch because it will stick once the thickening is there.

Serve with a green vegetable of some sort.

Cook for about 2-2 1/2 hours on low once it has come to the boil.
