I prepared for about a week, although the majority of my effort was only in the last 4 days. I attempted my TOEFL before my GRE, so I had to prepare from scratch. I have heard that TOEFL would be easier after you give your GRE, but I cannot comment on that right now.
Also, do not make a study plan that is longer than 15-20 days (unless English was not your first language in school). I believe that TOEFL is more of an English Talent Exam. Hence unlike the GRE, more prep ≠ more marks.
The majority of your preparation would just be getting familiarized with the pattern of the exam. There are no complicated/hard words that come on the TOEFL, so don't bother preparing from that point of view.
My study plan was as follows
- Reading: 0.75 days
- Listening: 0.75 days
- Writing: 0.75 days
- Speaking: 1.25 days
- Practice tests: 0.5 days
- Revision: a few hours before my exam
I prepared in a section-wise approach (as mentioned above), and I spent the first 10-20% of the time watching videos on it. However you do it, check out the "About the Test" page at the official ETS site
