Selecting your gear
Introduction
The equipment you use to vape needs to be carefully selected to meet your requirements. Your gear will determine your flavour, cloud production, throat hit and the temperature of your vape. Getting the right gear is crucial to improving your vaping experience, and keeping you off the analogues. In this page you won’t find details on modern, cutting edge technology, the market changes so fast that it’s impossible to keep up with all the new products. What you will see, however, is a list of products at the time of writing, and a rough description of how they behave and what sort of vape you can expect, but most importantly why they vape in that way. I will not discuss cig-a-likes in this article as although they are part of our world, they are the very first baby step.
In the interest of shortness, I will make the assumption that you are already aware of the differences between [Mechanical Mod]s, [Box Mod]s, and [eGo stick]s, as well as the differences between [Rebuildable Tank Atomizers], [Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer]s, [Atomizers] and [Cartomizer]s. The final assumption will be that you know the difference between a [Mouth-To-Lung hit] and a [Lung Hit]. Keep in mind that certain devices are much more prone to dramatic failures which can results in serious injury or death, and electrical safety should be considered the most important factor in selecting a battery. If you do not understand the risks, do not take them.
Choosing a battery
The three options available at the minute (and most likely forever) are the [Mechanical Mod], the [Box Mod], and the [eGo Stick]. Each device has its own merits, and typically the battery you get will be determined by your own requirements regarding continuous power delivery, battery capacity, and perhaps most importantly of all, style.
The eGo stick
We’ll start off discussing the latter. An [eGo stick] is a device which offers typically low power, and is best suited to powering [Cartomizer]s or small [Atomizer]s. Generally speaking the eGo stick is the introductory e-cigarette, and replaces either analogue cigarettes or cig-a-likes. It is best used for mouth-to-lung vapers due to the restrictive air flow of the small tanks that fit nicely on the devices, as well as it typically being the first step into the world of vaping – where people are looking to simulate smoking as closely as possible. At the time of writing, these devices are available in supermarkets, on the internet, on amazon, and pretty much everywhere. They cost anywhere from €15 to €100, depending on how much you’re willing to pay, but generally speaking no device is considered to produce a very different vape.
The eGo stick typically offers either a fixed or variable voltage. The exact specifications are often hidden, but typically you can vary the voltage from 3.3v to 5v. These numbers are, relatively speaking, unimportant, but they are a good reference point for changing your vape in slight ways to suit your needs. They are also somewhat useful when changing device, as most devices will use the same circuitry inside. At the time of writing, the most recognised eGo sticks are the Vision Spinner II and the Aspire CF G-Power. These devices both (as most eGo sticks) have internal batteries and as such a limited life, but they will last a good year at least before any real noticeable deterioration.
The Box Mod
The [Box Mod] is a device which is provides more variety than the [eGo stick], as well as the opportunity to used more sophisticated [Rebuildable Tank Atomizer]s and [Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers], both of which open up the possibilities to enjoy [Lung hit]s, as well as the more simulative [Mouth-to-lung hit]s. The traditional way to progress here from an [eGo stick] is to pick up a device which varies from 5 watts up to around 30 watts, and it is usually purchased with a higher capacity [Atomizer]. Often a [Rebuildable Atomizer] will also be considered, as a method of future proofing, but with up to 30 watts, something with higher quality replaceable coils would most likely be considered too, which will increase the quality
