Identify a contact you will reach out to by the end of Module 3. This could be a mentor, alum, anyone from your current network, or a completely cold contact. Describe:
I am connecting on the basis of common interests or experiences in a hope to obtain insight and information about varying aspects of the software dev industry.
I've been contacting multiple people since Mod 1 and have continued to reach out to new resources into Mod 2. I will continue into Mod 3.
I ALWAYS write a very nice message to them exclaiming my level of appreciation for them having taken the time to meet with me. It always seems as though they aren't really expecting a note of appreciation, which helps me to stand out in their mind, putting me in a positive position should I ever need to reach out to them again in the future.
Option #1: If you're going to utilize networking events, look at upcoming networking events on meetup.com, builtin.com, or other social networking sites to make a plan for 1 that you can attend between now and the end of Module 3. Decide:
Queer in Tech meetup at the Triangle, leveraging the gays. Takes place in a gay bar, a space in which I feel comfortable and am used to navigating.
I can offer the gift of gab, compelling life experiences, and a familiarity in the knowledge base which I will contribute to the dialogue. I'll use those, and my feminine wilds to gain access to information and insights about the software dev industry.
Future Jobs, connections on linkedIn, references, etc.
Option #2: If you'll network using coffee meetings:
Casey McCauley, because she's black and speaks German. I worked in germany for 5 years and can converse with her in her native toung, which puts me in the position of being liked by this human seeing as how most people in this country don't speak or understand her language.

People love and want to be understood. If I can appeal to that sense, I could have her as a resource for life. Future Jobs, connections on linkedIn, references, etc.
Option #3: If you'll network mainly using social media or open source contributions:
How will you meet and engage with others (i.e., what projects will you target? What kinds of conversations do you want to engage in?)
In this realm I am mainly seeking singular perspectives surrounding salaries, and company qualitative perspectives from alumn.
Usually using a new job post as an opportunity to congradulate the human, while then gaining access to information and insights about the software dev industry.
