Hello, Wizards of the Coast and Hareruya

I was involved in an unpleasant situation with kanister (https://www.twitch.tv/kanister_mtg) just a moment ago. The interaction occurs roughly from 1:40:00 - 1:50:00 in his Oct 26th stream (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1187365668).

I joined the stream and there was discussion about capitalism, shelter, etc. Somebody made a joke about capitalism and it bothered me because capitalism, through climate change, is predicted to kill about 2 billion people by 2100, essentially all of them innocent. For a point of comparison, the Holocaust killed about 12 million people, essentially all of them innocent. Now, if somebody made jokes about the Holocaust, most of our community would not allow this. I was in no position to stop them, so I just included my viewpoint (mostly what I said above). A moderator timed me out for this, apparently. Mind you, while this was going on, multiple people were talking about "politics". I felt angry and hurt because I was doing the same moral act as defending those who died in the Holocaust, but was being timed out while people made far less noble comments without being timed out. I don't particularly perceive kanister to be culpable for this.

I wanted to identify the person who timed me out because it seems highly ignoble and I planned to put them on block, holding them accountable for their action. NobodyKnowsImADog said it was "Candice". I was near 100% confident this person was trying to mislead me, but I wanted to give them a chance so I clarified there was no "Candice" in the room and they responded with "Candice entire dick fit in your mouth?". I don't perceive kanister to be culpable for this.

No moderators or kanister took any actions towards this user. Nobody deleted the comment, timed them out for any length of time, said anything negative to indicate they disliked it. The conclusion from these two interactions so far is that 'being serious about climate change in kanister's community is pretty annoying and bad, but rape jokes is whatever'. I don't particularly perceive kanister to be culpable for this, as they may have only had partial information about what was going on.

I then asked kanister the following, which he read on stream: "JaysonSunshine: Capitalism arose as a spontaneous topic and I reminded the chat that it kills 2 billion people this century, whereas only 12 million were killed in the Holocaust, innocent people in both cases. Timed out. Others make rape jokes and it's all cool. JaysonSunshine: That is a pretty immoral community." 

His response is available in the video, in which he got defensive and perceived me to likely be incompatible with his community and that I should go to "Reddit" (read: anywhere else but here). I hold kanister 100% culpable for this action. He now understood the full dynamics, didn't care, and suggested the person being concerned for the coming 2 billion deaths of humans -- in a discussion of politics that was started by and engaged in by several moderators -- leave.

A few moderators began to ask me "What rape joke?" They must have missed it. (It was available in chat, of course.) I was reluctant to say what the rape joke was because the immoral person, NobodyKnowsImADog, would likely get a thrill out of seeing their words again. Somewhere in this time period kanister also inquired about the rape joke. I copied and pasted the rape joke: "Candice entire dick fit in your mouth?". kanister read the comment on stream. He was aghast. He looked quite stressed out. He leaned back, took off his glasses, and seemed to express exasperation. And what was he upset about? That I was upset about that rape joke. A moderator chimed in to remind me that they were just joking. I sarcastically replied, "It was just a prank, bro!". Of course, this is how abusers behave -- none of their speech really matters, it's not serious, but my speech about climate change killing 20x WW2, well, man, that's pretty serious stuff. I was banned from kanister's chat shortly after that, presumably by kanister. I hold kanister 100% culpable for this action.

Look, the internet is a big place, and we've got lots of problems in our societies. I get it. I'm a vegan, so I perceive hundreds of billions of beings being murdered each year unnecessarily (and in a way that contributes to climate change, killing humans indirectly). We just had the mobster Donald Trump as president. We've all had to deal with these sorts of problems and we're tougher and more scarred because of it. I can handle some person in Twitch chat saying "Candice entire dick fit in your mouth?", and in a community that was entirely unmoderated, I wouldn't say anything about it to the streamer, because I'd know the community was unmoderated. I'd just recognize that person was undesirable for me to engage, put them on lifetime block, and move on. But that is not what happened, Wizards and Hareruya, let's be clear. I understand that kanister's channel tends to attract a diverse group of people and that he's usually pretty unfazed by things. That's why I've been visiting his stream off and on for about two years now. But that's not what happened, Wizards and Hareruya.

Kanister was fazed -- you can see it in his reaction to my citing the rape joke. And his channel wasn't laissez-faire -- it was moderated, i.e. I was timed out and then banned, but the person who made the rape joke was not timed out or banned. Kanister was presented the facts, which he read on stream, and he did take a stand: being concerned about climate change and spontaneously sharing that in a topic that already features political discussion is pretty annoying, but rape jokes, like, bro, you're just not a right fit for our community *ban*.

I'm curious to see how each of you would like to respond to this situation, and what it will reveal about the respective companies.
