Distributed Artificial Intelligence

Distributed artificial intelligence (DAI) is a subfield of artificial intelligence (AI) that is concerned with coordinated, concurrent action and problem solving. DAI is a branch of AI which studies the behavior of distributing knowledge, data, and processes of intelligent agents in a distributed environment.

The term "Distributed Artificial Intelligence" can refer to a variety of things, including distributed problem solving, distributed knowledge representation, distributed reasoning, and distributed learning. It also includes distributed algorithms for knowledge sharing and for distributed problem solving.

DAI systems are composed of multiple autonomous components, each of which may have its own representation of the problem, its own reasoning capabilities, and its own control mechanism. This allows for the system to do more complex reasoning and to be more resilient to errors.

DAI applications are found in many different domains including robotics, distributed computing, and computer networks. Examples of distributed artificial intelligence applications include robot swarms, distributed search algorithms, distributed computer networks, and distributed virtual environments.
