A Xenomorph's elongated, cylindrical head houses the powerful, inner jaws that can be extended to penetrate and inject victims with a paralyzing saliva. The Xenomorph's head is also used as a battering ram to break through barriers or ram fleeing prey. The Xenomorph's exoskeleton is extremely tough, providing excellent protection from most forms of attack while also enabling it to survive in the vacuum of space. Xenomorphs have incredible strength, enabling them to overpower most other lifeforms. The Xenomorph tail is strong and flexible, ending in a blade-like tip. Xenomorph blood is highly corrosive, eating through most materials on contact and posing a danger to the Xenomorph itself if it is wounded. The Xenomorphs' life cycle is unique in that the Xenomorph is spawned from another lifeform, a process known as "birth", in which a Xenomorph bursts from the chest of a living host. This birth process can be induced artificially and Xenomorphs can be grown from a variety of host species. The Xenomorph life cycle is divided into three distinct forms; the egg, the facehugger and the adult. The egg is produced by a Queen and is roughly the size of a basketball. The egg is normally immobile and waits for a suitable host to approach. If a host approaches the egg, a facehugger will emerge and attack the host. The facehugger is a parasitoid; it attaches itself to the host's face and inserts a proboscis down the host's throat. The proboscis pumps the host full of Xenomorph DNA which rapidly alters the host's genetic code, causing the host to gestate a Xenomorph chestburster. The facehugger then dies and drops off the host. After a gestation period of approximately 24 hours, a Xenomorph chestburster will burst from the host's chest, killing the host. The chestburster will then grow rapidly, molting several times as it develops into an adult Xenomorph. The adult is extremely hostile and will attack any lifeform it perceives to be a threat. Adult Xenomorphs are also driven to find a mate, with males attacking females in a bid to mate. After mating, the female will seek a host to lay her eggs in. If a suitable host cannot be found, the female can produce eggs by herself. Xenomorph Queens are the largest and most intelligent of the Xenomorphs. A Queen is generally much larger than the average Xenomorph drone and has a large, muscular crest on its head.
