None, it's the first day of class. Let's get to know each other!
In groups of 3 or 4 do a round-robin introduction of yourself:
- Background: career, family, hobbies
- What I'd like to get out of this program.
- Favourite [game|netflix show|child|etc].
- An example of bad design from your home, local community, online, etc.
Nominate at least one member of your group to share something they've learned about another group member.
Find an example of good/bad/vital product design in your immediate(ish) area (home, office, vehicle, etc).
- A kitchen gadget that you love to use.
- A tool you hate using but have to.
- A tech gadget you never have to think about because it's so intuitive.
In groups of 3 or 4 introduce your gadget/tool:
- What does it do?
- Where did you get it?
- Is it an example of good or bad design? Why? How would you improve it?
Nominate at least one member of your group to share the highlights of your show-and-tell.
Find an example of a Friction/Pain Point in an online website or app that you've used recently (or not recently if the pain is still vivid).
In groups of 3 or 4, take turns discussing each of your examples:
- Why does it cause friction? What pain does it cause?
- Do you think this pain universal, or is it specific to you (or a sub-group you belong to)?
- What terms have you learned in class that help describe "why" your example causes this friction?
Nominate at least one member of your group to share the highlights of your discussion.
