The Industry instructions for guest audio setup

The Industry: Guest Audio Setup

We take our audio seriously, and we really need you to take it seriously as well. Below are our instructions to help you get setup and sound your best on the show. Please take 5 minutes and read and follow these instructions.

Need help? Email or Tweet to Adam.

What you will need

  • Reliable internet connection. We prefer wired, but if you know for sure that your wireless connection is solid we'll trust you.
  • Skype account and you'll also need to add Adam. Just search for 'adamstac'.
  • USB headset, or a decent microphone AND headphones. Headphones are required. They CAN NOT be iPhone headphones, they cause audio bleed
  • A quiet place to record
  • No mobile phones (they interfere with the audio)
  • Audacity (see below) or something you are comfortable recording .aiff audio files in mono
  • Do a 2 minute test recording and share it with Adam

Get ready

  • Add Adam as a contact on Skype. Search for 'adamstac'.
  • Plan to show up ~5-10 minutes before to showtime at 3pm PT - 6pm ET and plan for 1 hour and 30 mins of show time.
  • Adam will contact you on Skype before the show starts. Please do not call him, he'll be preping to start the show.
  • Relax. Have fun. Bring your opinions.

Setup Audacity

Download and install Audacity.

Settings: Record your microphone

Once you've installed Audacity, you'll need to open it and set it up to record your microphone.

Audacity - Source

Exporting: Export to AIFF

Once the show is over and the recording is complete, save your Audacity project and export an .aiff to share with Adam.

Audacity - Export

Sharing: Share the file

After you've exported the file, share the file with Adam via Dropbox or any other private URL. Email the link to adam -at- theindustry.cc.

That's it.
