What is Jenkins? | |
Jenkins is an open source automation server written in Java. Jenkins helps to automate the non-human part of the software development process, with continuous integration and facilitating technical aspects of continuous delivery. (Wikipedia) | |
1. Install required packages | |
wget -q -O - https://pkg.jenkins.io/debian/jenkins.io.key | sudo apt-key add - | |
sudo sh -c 'echo deb http://pkg.jenkins.io/debian-stable binary/ > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jenkins.list' | |
sudo apt update | |
sudo apt install -y jenkins | |
2. Start jenkins service | |
sudo service jenkins start | |
Now jenkins will be available at port 8080 of your server. You can do the first-time setup by going to | |
<server-ip>:8080 | |
-------------------------------------------- | |
To move jenkins to default HTTP port (port 80) so that you can map it to your own domain: | |
sudo apt install -y firewalld | |
Then find out the default network interface. To do that, run "netstat -i" and remember the Iface other than "lo". In case of Google Cloud instance, it is "ens4" | |
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --change-interface=<interface> | |
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-masquerade --permanent | |
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-forward-port=port=80:proto=tcp:toport=8080 --permanent | |
sudo firewall-cmd --runtime-to-permanent | |
sudo firewall-cmd --reload | |
sudo systemctl restart firewalld | |
sudo systemctl disable ebtables | |
sudo systemctl mask ebtables | |
Now you can open jenkins by going to <server-ip>. You can also map the server IP to your custom domain. | |
-------------------------------------------- | |
---------------------------------- | |
NOTE: Command to fix jenkins permissions of a dir | |
sudo setfacl -Rm u:jenkins:rwx <dir> | |
---------------------------------- | |
