I have ethernet running to my Fios modem/router on either end of a very long house. I wanted to set the modem/router and Tenda routers to have the same network name (SSID) and password so it would auto-connect from anywhere in the house. To do this, use AP (Access Point) mode.
- I used an ethernet cable from laptop to WAN port of router.
- Power on Router
- If not using ethernet cable, connect to new router WiFi (Tenda_xxxx)
- Go to http://192.168.0.1 (see install docs if this changes)
- Click Okay to Continue from initial page
- Go to "Internet Settings" tab and click "AP" mode. and click OK. Modem will reboot
- Remove ethernet cable from the laptop
- After the reboot, connect by WiFi to the router (Tenda_xxxx)
- Check you have upstream internet connection. If not, troubleshoot!
- Go to http://tendawifi.com to access the admin page.
- Click on the "Wireless Settings" tab
- Configure your network name (SSID), password type (WPA2?) and secret to be identical to your modem/router settings
- Click OK. Modem will reconfigure itself.
- If equipment confused, power-cycle router and turn wireless off/on on devices.
- Connect WiFi to the network name (SSID) you configured
- Enjoy!
