I have ubuntu 20 64 Bit I am getting error
mysql: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Simply install libncurses5
sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo apt-get install libncurses5

This would now be a different problem... What happens if you sudo su, then mysql -u root ... ?
