PowerShell, Cmder / ConEmu, Posh-Git, Oh-My-Posh, Powerline Customization

Pimping Up Your PowerShell & Cmder with Posh-Git, Oh-My-Posh, & Powerline Fonts

Backstory (TLDR)

I work as a full-stack developer at work. We are a Windows & Azure shop, so we are using Windows as our development platform, hence this customization.

For my console needs, I am using Cmder which is based on ConEmu with PowerShell as my shell of choice.

Yes, yes, I know nowadays you can use the Linux subsystem on Windows 10 which allow you to run Ubuntu on Windows. If you are looking for customization of the Ubuntu bash shell, check out this article by Scott Hanselman.

Efficient matrix multiplication

High-Performance Matrix Multiplication

This is a short post that explains how to write a high-performance matrix multiplication program on modern processors. In this tutorial I will use a single core of the Skylake-client CPU with AVX2, but the principles in this post also apply to other processors with different instruction sets (such as AVX512).

Intro

Matrix multiplication is a mathematical operation that defines the product of

Freematics + Traccar (integration and configuration)

In this article I listed some common problems I encountered when I tried to use Freematics OBD-reader together with traccar device-tracking server. Both are open-source, thanks to which I was able to improve both and their cooperation.

Freematics: official repo and my fork.

traccar: official repo and my fork.

What are the pitfalls and hardware drawbacks of Freematics?

  1. Currently, Freematics cannot switch between WiFi and SIM depending on connectivity. If you want to switch to a different WiFi or mobile operator - you need to open your bloody Windows and recompile everything :)
  2. Doesn't work at all without external power, has no battery. Works only when connected to USB (3.7V), OBD-II (12V), or SAE J1939 (24V). It me

Install Windows 11 in a virtual machine on macOS with an M1 CPU

Based on https://docs.getutm.app/guides/windows/

  1. You will need:
    • A Windows 10 or Windows 11 license key;
    • UTM for Mac - the App Store version is offered as a way to support the developers, since it's paid, but has the same features as the free build.
  2. Obtain scripts that bootstrap an arm64 Windows 11 22H2 (I've chosen Windows Home edition and not Pro);
  3. brew install aria2 cabextract wimlib cdrtools minacle/chntpw/chntpw;
  4. cd into the directory extracted in step 1 and bash uup_download_macos.sh - this will produce an ISO;
  5. In the UTM app, create a new “Virtualize” machine and mount the ISO file from the previous step;
  6. Check “Install drivers and SPICE tools”;

kamal + github actions

Example of Kamal deployment from Github Actions.

Add your applications .env variables to the Github repo as a repository secret, you can find this under the repo settings => secrets and variables => actions

https://github.com/username/repo_name/settings/secrets/actions

you are going to need an ssh private key that your deployment server is aware of (add public key to servers .ssh/authorized_keys) and add the ssh private key as a repo secret

create action workflows
