OSM Data Issues in Asia and Africa

High priority, easy fixes:

1. Admin1 Capital Cities in the Phillipines incorrectly have capital=yes when they should have capital=4 or admin_level=4
2. Many cities have missing population data, this will prevent cities with larger populations from rendering at low zooms. Main country of concern is China, which may also have erroneous population data added by a OSM contributor to promote certain cities over others.
3. South Korea: many features incorrectly have place=town resulting in an overwhelming amount of erroneous town labels. See this issue in OSM Carto for more info.

High priority, but requires more work:

1. The Rann of Kutch, see @almccon's detailed write up for more info.
2. OSM borders, @almccon has a detailed write up on how to go about fixing / improving them.
3. Improve route-relation highway tagging in Japan

Medium priority:

1. South Korea (and potentially other countries) some highways have commas separating their ref attributes. These should be corrected to be separated by semi-colons instead.
2. Administrative borders that follow natural features such as rivers are often rendered at a different level of generalization and/or mis-aligned. See this provincial border in Nigeria as an example

Requires finding public domain third-party data (consult with local OSM community an the wiki here and here)

1. Some countries have missing state / province boundary data such as Malaysia, Madagascar, Tanzania, etc.
2. Many countries (Japan, Mali) have little or no data for National Parks, Nature Reserves, and other types of public lands and open spaces. These are important features that need mapping.

Requires some on-the-ground knowledge:

1. Many major cities do not have street names, for example Porto Novo in Benin
2. Many cities lack amenities eg Lagos, Nigeria
