For the record the original PNG makes a point to say several of the artists aren't minimal/microhouse, they just influenced it greatly

There used to be a collage called something like "ACIEEEED" which had most of the really important acid tracks and albums from the old and new school. I'm not sure why it doesn't exist anymore but here it is again. Everything Acid, Analogue & Digital, chicago sounds, acid breaks, IDM, etc.
Lovers of the 303: feel free to add any information or album!

What is post-hip-hop? Well, any music that couldn't have existed before the advent of hip-hop. Fair enough, you say, but doesn't that describe just about all of popular music in the 21st century? Yes and no. While everything from gospel to boy bands to metal has swiped beats or just attitude from hip-hop, post hip-hop takes its basic elements — beats, bass, scratching, rapping, sampling — and pushes them, stretches them, distends them, sometimes explodes them entirely. It can sound like a slightly more perverse version of what you hear on urban radio or bear no resemblance to what 99% of people would call hip-hop, maybe just borrowing the crooked backbone of beats or the specter of a DJ cutting and scratching.
But however far these artists have traveled from the halcyon days of Def Jam, they heard something in hip-hop's low-end theories and block-party bricolage that permanently flipped their wigs. If hip-hop is purportedly the most popular music on the planet, then these artists are the geeks, the weirdos, the science nerds and the perverts who lost the popularity contest. Like the other great "post" musics — post-punk and post-rock, and you can probably throw stuff like IDM and the outermost reaches of jazz in there, too — the following artists have little compunction about "keeping it real." For good or ill, their distance from hip-hop culture allows them to experiment, occasionally creating new mutations, and sometimes even new forms entirely.

This collage is dedicated to the House Sound of Chicago
Wikipedia: Chicago house is the earliest style of house music. Most would agree that house music originated in North America during the early 80s at a Chicago nightclub called The Warehouse. DJ Frankie Knuckles originally popularized house music while working at The Warehouse by playing mostly underground disco, funk, and soul records. Knuckles took these tracks and began layering them with percussion loops which made it possible for the tracks to be mixed into a DJ set. Gradually the sound of house evolved to include the very charismatic four to the floor pattern coupled with the syncopated hi hat. Club-goers craving for more of this then-fresh music visited their local record stores asking for "music played at the Warehouse." Eventually, the term was simply truncated to "house music." The special Chicago sound exported itself to the likes of Detroit, Philadelphia, New York City, and eventually across the Atlantic and into the UK. During this time it was subject to a multitude of interpretations and transformations, including, but not limited to, its two siblings of the electronic music genre: trance and techno.

Deep House is a style of House music that emerged in the United States during the late 1980s. Influenced by Jazz, Funk and Soul, the genre typically features a more relaxed tempo than most House subgenres, slow and dissonant melodies, and smooth vocals.

UK garage (also known as UKG, 2-step or simply garage) is a genre of electronic dance music originating from the United Kingdom in the early 1990s. UK garage is a descendant of house music which originated in Chicago and New York. The genre usually features a distinctive syncopated 4/4 percussive rhythm with 'shuffling' hi-hats and beat-skipping kick drums. Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-shifted or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure. UK garage was largely subsumed into other styles of music and production in the mid-2000s, including Bassline, Grime, UK Funky and Dubstep.

Jungle-footwork, post-footwork bass - stuff that’s 160bpm but isn’t drum and bass.
Spawned by people like Africa Hitech and Om Unit, taking the footwork 4/4 frantic rhythm of Chicago and mashing it into the halcyon days of jungle and ‘arkcore past. London ‘nuum meet Chicago dance.

Also known as: Minimal DnB, Microfunk, Autonomic Sound COMP's & LP's only please!
rym wrote: Minimal drum and bass is, as the name would suggest, a subgenre of Drum and Bass which strips down the sound as far as it can go without wholly ceasing to be drum and bass (and even so, the most extreme tracks are often confused with Future Garage). Although there had been experimentation with minimal tracks by DnB producers for years, it was dBridge & Instra:mental who pioneered it as a distinct subgenre with their Autonomic podcasts in 2009, and the genre received wider attention in early 2010 when their Fabriclive mix CD was released.
Minimal DnB tracks generally remain close to DnB tempos of around 170bpm, but almost every other aspect of the music contrasts highly with contemporary trends in DnB; the closest similarities lie with Liquid Funk, with both making use of the same type of sharp and clear production. The genre takes far more from dubstep and future garage, with very sparse production and a restrained feel. The traditional drum and bass rhythms are infused with the attitude of 'less is more' as is prevalent in Minimal Techno-influenced dubstep, using quiet percussion, deep sub-bass (little to no LFO 'wobble' bass) and subdued melodies

Ghettotech or Detroit club music is a form of electronic dance music originating from Detroit. It combines elements of Chicago's ghetto house with electro, hip hop, techno, and grafts the perceived raunch of Miami Bass as the vocal stamp of the music. It is usually faster than most other dance music genres, at roughly 145 to 170 bpm, and sometimes features pornographic lyrics. As DJ Godfather puts it, "the beats are really gritty, really raw, nothing polished."

Industrial music is a style of experimental music that draws on transgressive and provocative themes. The term was coined in the mid-1970s with the founding of Industrial Records by the band Throbbing Gristle, and the creation of the slogan "industrial music for industrial people". In general, the style is harsh and challenging. The Allmusic website defines industrial as the "most abrasive and aggressive fusion of rock and electronic music"; "initially a blend of avant-garde electronics experiments (tape music, musique concrète, white noise, synthesizers, sequencers, etc.) and punk provocation".
The first industrial artists experimented with noise and aesthetically controversial topics, musically and visually, such as fascism, serial killers and the occult. Their production was not limited to music, but included mail art, performance art, installation pieces and other art forms. Prominent industrial musicians include Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Boyd Rice, Cabaret Voltaire, and Z'EV. The precursors that influenced the development of the genre included acts such as electronic group Kraftwerk, experimental rock acts The Velvet Underground and Frank Zappa, psychedelic rock artists such as Jimi Hendrix, composers such as John Cage, writers such as William S. Burroughs, and philosophers such as Friedrich Nietzsche.
While the term was initially self-applied by a small coterie of groups and individuals associated with Industrial Records in the 1970s, it broadened to include artists influenced by the original movement or using an "industrial" aesthetic. These artists expanded the genre by pushing it into noisier and more electronic directions. Over time, its influence spread into and blended with styles including folk, ambient, and rock, all of which fell under the post-industrial music label. The most notable hybrid genres were industrial rock and industrial metal, which include bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Marilyn Manson (band) the three of which released platinum-selling albums in the 1990s. Those two genres are often referred to as simply industrial.
