##Alien Sandwich A numbered list of instructions for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

  1. Hello Alien!
  2. IF you have a left and a right arm AND IF you have something at the end of each arm that can grasp objects AND IF you are able to visually distinguish between different object shapes and colors, continue to the next step, ELSE stop here. No PBJ sandwich for you, sorry!
  3. Henceforth, your Left Hand will be referred to as "LH" and your Right Arm will be referred to as "RH"
  4. Next, we will collect and label all the objects on the table.
  5. Reach out and grasp an object on the table.
  6. IF the object is round and flat, this object is a "Plate" ELSE IF the object is soft to the touch, this object is "Bread Loaf" ELSE IF the object is narrow with one side that is sharp to the touch, this object is a "Knife" ELSE IF the object is hard, has a cylindrical shape and you can see a brown substance inside, this is a "Peanut Butter Jar" ELSE the object is a "Jelly Jar"
  7. Set down the object in an empty space on the table and note the location of where you placed the object.
  8. Repeat steps 5,6, and 7until no objects remain that you have not previously grasped on the table:.
  9. Next, we will cut two slices of bread.
  10. With your LH, reach out and grasp the knife. IF you have grasped the sharp edge of the knife, instead grasp the opposite edge. IF the sharp edge of the knife is facing upwards, turn the knife so that it faces downwards. Holding the knife this way will be known as a "cutting grasp"
  11. With your RH, reach out and grasp the Bread Loaf. Place the Bread Loaf, such that its centered on the table and the longer side is parallel with the edge of the table closest to you and . Place the knife such that it is perpendicular with the long side of the Bread Loaf and a distance from the edge of the short side of the Bread Loaf that is equal to the height of the Knife, and such that the sharp edge of the knife is touching the Bread Loaf.
  12. Pressing down on the loaf of bread with the sharp side of the knife, rapidly move the knife toward and away from you without thee edge going outside the boundaries of the bread loaf. Continue this motion until a piece of the bread loaf has become completely detached from the bread loaf.
  13. The piece that has become detached is a "Bread Slice"
  14. The part of the slice that became detached first from the Bread Loaf is the "top of the slice"
  15. Place the Bread Slice next to the plate.
  16. Repeat steps 12 to 15 once more, then continue to the next step.
  17. Place one of the two Bread Slices on the plate.
  18. Grasp the Peanut Butter Jar with your LH.
  19. The following steps will become known as "Removing a lid from a jar": Grasp the jar along the center of the cylindrical portion. Place your RH along the edges of the top of the Jar. A top section of the Jar should jut out somewhat compared to the rest of the jar. Grasp only this portion of the jar and rotate counter clock-wise until you are able to lift the top portion of the jar off of the rest of the Jar. The portion that has been removed is the "Jar Lid."
  20. Grasp the knife with your LH and insert the sharp side of the knife diagonally into the top of the Peanut Butter Jar, then lift straight up, twisting the knife so that it is perpendicular with the surface of the table. If a portion of the contents of the jar is on the knife, then continue, else try again.
  21. While maintaining the knife's perpendicular position, move the knife until it is on top of the Bread Slice, then rotate the knife so that the content from the jar now is facing the bread slice.
  22. Move the knife just above the bread slice such that the contents from the jar becomes evenly spread across the slice.
  23. Repeat steps 21 - 23 until all parts of the slice are covered with equal amounts of PB and the amount is equal to a height that is 1/5 the height of the slice.
  24. Repeat steps 19-24, but with the Jelly Jar instead of the Peanut Butter Jar.
  25. Grasp one slice on the plate. Quickly lift it up and turn it upside down and hold it above the other slice, making sure the top of one slice is above the top of the other slice, then lower the slice onto the other slice.
  26. The two slices, with peanut butter and jelly between them is now a "PBJ Sandwich"
  27. Congratulations, Alien, you've just made a PBJ!
