The sad state of WordCamps in India

The sad state of WordCamps in India

I happened to see WordCamp Central a while ago and I found another WordCamp happening in India. It's going to happen in Bhubaneswar (BBSR) this time. And I am very disappointed to see what resides on their website.

All the links point to WordCamp Phoenix (PHX). That's just one part of the story. Even the design of WordCamp Bhubaneswar is identical to that of WordCamp PHX. I have seen the themes that come along with the website when you get access to it and in 2011, there was nothing like the design of WordCamp PHX. Another thing that makes me think about the copying of the design is the thing about the URLs of all the links and the sidebar.

The sad part about the story is, the fact that WordCamp's are happening in India after a very very long time and the people who are trying to organize them are not doing justice to the event. Yes, they are doing a good thing by organizing an event. They have the support of the local usergroup and make these events great. Yet, they don't do a simple attribution to the actual design source.

I would request the organizers of the WordCamp BBSR to atleast give credit to the design inspiration somewhere on the page.

As for the other WordCamp's which have happened before, please give a little more importance to the event's reputation which comes along with the name. It's not just your name which is important when you are hosting the event.

Update

I just noticed the date of their first blog post (which happens to be sample) as November 28, 2012. If the event has been planned so far and is going to happen in the summers, then the website needs to be updated a bit, or has nothing happened for the last 2 months.

I can say this because I was involved with WordCamp Jabalpur (JBP) and I know when it came to life and what was happening since the organizer's application was accepted.

Note

I am not going to tag the events which have happened so far as good or bad.
