Intro

obsidian-livesync is an Obsidian plugin, which allows you to Synchronize your Obsidian vault between devices, using a CouchDB database.

Synology NAS devices offer Docker support, which is a convenient way to host your CouchDB.

Setup the CouchDB container on Synology

Pre-requisites

Create a directory for your Docker data (e.g. /volume1/docker/obsidian-couchdb)
Create a user with permissions to that directory - put them in the users group

REMOVE JAMF RESTRICTIONS ON MAC

Open Powershell as administrator and run Import-Module 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter\MvmcCmdlet.psd1'
And after ConvertTo-MvmcVirtualHardDisk -SourceLiteralPath d:\scratch\vmx\VM-disk1.vmdk -VhdType DynamicHardDisk -VhdFormat vhdx -destination c:\vm-disk1

Theory:

your git repository can have more than one remote server; In this case we want to have two:

one for our private repository on gitlab (will be the default one, called origin)
one to be connected to the source repo on github, to be able to pull new changes (will be called upstream)
