- Ensure display (rainbow ribbon cable) is connected
- Ensure bowden tube is secured to hotend and extruder collet with clips
- Ensure screws holding the Z-coupler to the Z leadscrew are one turn from tight
- Ensure Z axis moves freely - check for "bind points" near the top and bottom of the leadscrew
- Ensure the X and Y axes move freely across their entire range of motion with no snagging of cables
- Ensure that the gantry is level and frame is tight
- Ensure that the X and Y belts are tight - they should be like a guitar string. If a belt is loose, locate the belt tensioner (X axis, on the right side) and loosen (do not remove) the two bolts that attach the tensioner to the gantry. Then pull the tensioner to the right until the belt is taut and tighten both bolts while still holding the tensioner in place.
- Tighten all four bed adjustment screws so that the bed is as low (i.e. far away from the nozzle) as possible
- Ensure that the Z and X endstops are connected!!!
- Place the build mat on the bed
- Connect power and turn printer on, wait for POST
- Click the knob, go to Control > Auto Home
- Be ready to yank the power if it does not stop trying to move when it hits the endstops!!!
- Once homed, click the knob. Go to Control > Disable Steppers. Now you can move the carriage and bed by hand
- Move the nozzle to all four corners. Put a single sheet of copy paper between the bed and nozzle. You want the slightest amount of "tug" on the paper from the nozzle but the paper must move freely! Loosen the adjustment screws one by one, moving the nozzle each time. Then go back and re-adjust until all four points have the same very small amount of friction. Finally, check the center of the bed and ensure that it is also level.
- TODO: How to adjust preheat temps for PLA
- Click the knob. Go to Control > Move Axis > Move Z > Move 10mm, rotate the wheel to raise Z up by ~40mm
- Place filament spool on holder, run filament to extruder, and press on the spring-loaded arm while feeding in to insert filament
- Keep feeding filament in until it hits the nozzle
- Click the knob. Go to Temperature > Preheat PLA > Preheat PLA
- Wait for the extruder and bed to come to temperature. While the bed is heating, wipe the build mat down with IPA.
- Click the knob. Go to Control > Move Axis > Move Extruder > Move 1mm, rotate the wheel to extrude 5mm
- Going in 2-4mm increments, continue extruding filament until it starts coming out of the nozzle. If you hear a stuttering "tut-tut-tut" sound coming from the extruder motor, it is slipping because the filament refuses to feed. This could be because the nozzle is not hot enough or because there is a jam somewhere in between the filament and the nozzle.
- Ensure that filament is extruding in a clean, fat bead. If it's coming out squiggly or thinner than the nozzle opening, it's clogged.
- Insert microSD card, click the knob, go to Print from SD and select .gcode file to print!
