#!/usr/bin/env python3
# Takes a sitemap file [1] and submits each URL to the Wayback Machine [2].
# | |
# Usage: python3 submit_urls.py sitemap.xml
# | |
# The script will contact the Wayback Machine for each URL in turn and request
# that it be saved [3]. The script prints (to standard output) the HTTP status
# code received from the Wayback Machine for each URL. The output looks like
# this: | |
# | |
# 200 OK: https://myblog.com/2018/06/some-article
# 502 Bad Gateway: https://invalid.example/
# 200 OK: https://myblog.com/2018/07/another-article
# | |
# (I haven't looked too deeply into this, but my suspicion is that 502 Bad
# Gateway is used as a catchall and is the only error code you'll see.)
# | |
# If any URL submission results in a status other than 200 OK then the script
# will exit with status 1; otherwise it will exit with status 0.
# | |
# This script requires Python 3 to be installed. It has been tested with Python
# 3.6.4 but will probably work with earlier versions.
