Next month, I'd like to finally kick off OpenHack Pittsburgh. OpenHack is an
initiative started by the Western NY Ruby Users Group to create a regularly
meeting, globally branded hacking event. The exact structure of OpenHack varies
by city, but the basic purpose is coding together. You can learn more at the
website - http://openhack.github.com/
You're receiving this email because you have either expressed interest in
OpenHack or have a hand in organizing a technology user group in Pittsburgh.
This is a polyglot event, and I want to be sure each user group is represented
and that the scheduling for OpenHack doesn't conflict with other events. If
you know of any user groups that aren't represented, please let me know, or
feel free to copy them into the thread.
The plan for OpenHack Pittsburgh is to meet monthly with a mix of "Bring Your
Own Project" and pairing on open source software with someone who is
experienced with that project. The first meeting will be held in mid-January at
4moms in the Strip District. A date has not been set, but I expect it will be a
weekday night, probably from 6-9pm.
What we need from you: | |
Your group's meeting times - I don't want to schedule OpenHack at the same time
as another event. It is detrimental to both events to split the audience
Promotion - spread the word about OpenHack. The website is
http://openhack.github.com/pittsburgh/, the twitter account is @OpenHackPGH
Projects - I believe this event will be a lot more successful if there are
projects to work on. If you have open source software that needs help, this is
where you can get it | |
Host Space - I'd like to host OpenHack at a different Pittsburgh company each
month, or rotate between a few, to create variety and accessibility
Food and Coffee Sponsors - Same rule as CodeRetreat - No pizza! I'd expect the
food sponsor to usually be the host.
You! - It'd be great to have experienced community members at every OpenHack.
