@olek - fwiw, a common pitfall with vagrant is using the one from rubygems rather than vagrant downloaded from http://downloads.vagrantup.com/. I was able to successfully import @aszeso's base191-64 box, although I'm still unable to get it to respond to SSH.

I've automated the process of making new SmartOS vboxes ("Vagrant SmartMachines" as well) using vbkick (https://github.com/wilas/vbkick) and @aszeszo script. Template is available here: https://github.com/wilas/vbkick-template-smartos
Note: It support booting SmartOS from USB or ISO.
