- Put a pile of treasure in the centre of the table (coins, beads, tokens, etc)
- The players are all members of a party, resting from a day of adventuring at The Banned Bandit Band's Band
- Upon talking to the Bard Bartender Brad, the party learns the tavern has a contest. The best adventuring story wins a free night's stay, and unlimited food and drink. The catch is that only one party member can win it, or risk being barred by the Bard from The Banned Bandit Band's Band
- The first player to think of a tavern-related pun wins first control. This is the Pungeonmaster. Take one bit of treasure.
- The Pungeonmaster may say one sentence from their story without interruption.
- Other players may interrupt the Pungeonmaster after their first sentence. The interruption must be done with a pun, and must pertain to what has been said by the current Pungeonmaster since taking control.
- If the interruption elicits at least one smile or groan, the interruptor becomes the new Pungeonmaster, and may continue with their story and takes another piece of treasure.
- The game ends when the Pungeonmaster has at least five pieces of treasure, and brings the tale to a conclusion with a treasure-related pun.
- Each character has a different final conclusion. Write each down separately before beginning play.
- Vary the goal amount of treasure for a longer or shorter game.
- Players may spend a treasure to add a detail to the story without taking control.
