- Not easily forkable: omnivore-app/omnivore#25
- Readwise and instapaper may be pricey comparables? Wallabag with PikaPods?
- A sarcastic post about Omnivore's acquisition @[email protected] 🔗 https://mastodon.social/users/hynek/statuses/113389308364035896 Omnivore’s journey has just become incredible
@[email protected] 🔗 https://mastodon.social/users/hynek/statuses/113394496852222790 After quipping yesterday & Omnivore adding a deadline to export your data until 11/15, here’s my endorsement (suck it Jeff).
@feedbin is:
- a web-based RSS reader whose API is supported by most RSS clients
- with newsletter support
- that does not add stupid features
- that just works
- that’s been around for over a decade
- and is $50/year (causality w/ prev point!).
Been with them since 2020 and have zero complaints. Hope I didn’t jinx it and they announce AI crap tomorrow. 😅
@[email protected] 🔗 https://hachyderm.io/users/jakecarpenter/statuses/113394275458877617 FWIW to other folks out there dealing with #Omnivore shutting down, I have found nothing that meets my needs of RSS + Newsletter maintenance except Inoreader. Nope, it's not open source and you don't get those features for free. But, the subscription is much cheaper than my time towards self-hosting.
There's a 14-day trial of their Pro subscription plus 30% off for the first year. Regularly $90 USD/yr.

@[email protected] 🔗 https://mastodonczech.cz/users/honzajavorek/statuses/113392684218186582 @sethmlarson @hynek I use https://netnewswire.com/, which is MIT and in healthy state, and it's just an app, but it's for Apple only.
@[email protected] 🔗 https://mastodon.social/users/hynek/statuses/113394698944714609 @brettcannon @sethmlarson I used to be an Inoreader customer but they had this feature bloat and somehow their sanitizer removed newlines as whitespace from item previews so I switched to Feedbin which is also cheaper
@[email protected] 🔗 https://masto.ai/users/noodlejetski/statuses/113392497241509672 @sethmlarson @omnivore FreshRSS, either self-hosted or used with one of the providers https://freshrss.org/cloud-providers.html
there's several clients for every major OS that support it https://github.com/FreshRSS/FreshRSS/blob/edge/README.md#apis--native-apps
@[email protected] 🔗 https://mastodon.social/users/hynek/statuses/113401094469455784 Following the Omnivore saga, for those who want a read it later, but not an RSS reader, one of the very best HTML parsers is Instapaper and they just added an import from the Omnivore ZIP archive: https://www.instapaper.com/user
P.S. Don’t waste your time and money on Pocket. Their HTML parser is absolutely abysmal.
