Israel-Palestine Resources

The purpose of this list is to provide a high-impact introduction to the main players and ideologies in the tensions between Israel and Palestine. The wikipedia articles linked here all refer to first sources, and my curation attempts to remove a single narrative, insofar that this is even possible.

This list skips easily googleable articles ("Hamas", "1967 War", etc). It also skips articles that focus on a single viewpoint ("Palestinian Political Violence", "Greater Israel", etc). Please use these articles as a starting point to research. This is not a complete list, it simply provides key points to begin with.

How does clang 2.7 hold up in 2021?

A friend recently learned about Proebsting's law and mentioned it to me off hand. I knew about the law's existence but I never really asked myself - do I believe in it?

For people who aren't aware, Proebsting's law states:

Compiler Advances Double Computing Power Every 18 Years

Which is to say, if you upgrade your compiler every 18 years, you would expect on average your code to double in performance on the same hardware.

Make Linux fast

In /etc/default/grub, modify:

noibrs noibpb nopti nospectre_v2 nospectre_v1 l1tf=off nospec_store_bypass_disable no_stf_barrier mds=off tsx=on tsx_async_abort=off mitigations=off 

Then sudo update-grub

This document was originally written several years ago. At the time I was working as an execution core verification engineer at Arm. The following points are coloured heavily by working in and around the execution cores of various processors. Apply a pinch of salt; points contain varying degrees of opinion.

It is still my opinion that RISC-V could be much better designed; though I will also say that if I was building a 32 or 64-bit CPU today I'd likely implement the architecture to benefit from the existing tooling.

Mostly based upon the RISC-V ISA spec v2.0. Some updates have been made for v2.2

The RISC-V ISA has pursued minimalism to a fault. There is a large emphasis on minimizing instruction count, normalizing encoding, etc. This pursuit of minimalism has resulted in false orthogonalities (such as reusing the same instruction for branches, calls and returns) and a requirement for superfluous instructions which impacts code density both in terms of size and

Both iPhone and Watch ship with a Secure Enclave processor. Both are also H11-class SoCs. As such, there are broad similarities between the different blocks. Embedded cores present on-die use firmware written with RTKit, which is Apple's own broadly-used RTOS on cores codenamed Chinook. The codename for the eSIM platform on both the iPhone and Watch is Vinyl. The NFC (+Apple Pay?) controller is named Stockholm, and the Apple Watch Series 4 + iPhone Xs and Xr ship with version 5.

What is Orthodox C++?

Orthodox C++ (sometimes referred as C+) is minimal subset of C++ that improves C, but avoids all unnecessary things from so called Modern C++. It's exactly opposite of what Modern C++ suppose to be.

Why not Modern C++?
