Every few months I impulsively switch between Firefox and Chromium on (Arch) Linux. Whilst both browsers have their limitations, at this moment in time, I ultimately prefer Chromium.
I think I'm prone to forget what I like and dislike about each browser so I'm writing this little list for my future reference. Maybe you'll find it useful, too.
- Much better privacy settings and privacy-related extensions
- Possible to customize the GTK theme (I like to use the Arc theme)
- Built-in integration for GNOME extensions
- I'm not sure, but I think I prefer the VimFx extension to any comporable extension for Chromium
- Sluggish (π Award for most annoying limitation)
- Crashes often compared to Chromium
- When you right click selected text and try to "Search for " or "Copy" , in certain environments, such as Dillinger, FireFox does not detect the selected text properly -- it only detects a weird unicode symbol
- Cannot copy and paste text in Google Documents π
- Google Hangouts doesn't work, in my experience
- Fast
- Flash "just works" with Pepper
- Solid and responsive developer tools
- Some better extensions, like Refined GitHub and Motivation. I also really like Merge Windows.
- Can look hideous on Linux
- Poor privacy settings and privacy-related extensions
