It also runs on 16.04.
System Settings > Software&Updates > Other Software > find and click noobslab/apps repository > Edit > change Distrbution value to "trusty".
Then sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install indicator-synapse. That's all.

I'm having the same problem with unmet dependencies the previous posters have reported. Does anyone know of a solution?

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
indicator-synapse : Depends: libgee2 (>= 0.5.0) but it is not installable
Depends: libgranite1 (>= 0.2.0~) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

The following worked for me on Ubuntu 16.04.

Add the elementary OS daily PPA, required for the dependencies:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:elementary-os/daily

Add the unstable-upstream PPA for indicator synapse:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:elementary-os/unstable-upstream

Then follow the following instruction:

System Settings > Software & Updates > Other Software > find and click elementary-os/daily repository > Edit > change Distrbution value to "trusty". Do the same for the ppa:elementary-os/unstable-upstream repository. Then sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install indicator-synapse. That's all.

You can remove the PPA after installing Synapse Indicator if you want.
