Insanely complete Ansible playbook, showing off all the options
This playbook has been removed as it is now very outdated.

Checkout github pull requests locally

Locate the section for your github remote in the .git/config file. It looks like this:

[remote "origin"]
	fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
	url = [email protected]:joyent/node.git

Now add the line fetch = +refs/pull/*/head:refs/remotes/origin/pr/* to this section. Obviously, change the github url to match your project's URL. It ends up looking like this:

How to make faster scroll effects?

How to make faster scroll effects?

  • Avoid too many reflows (the browser to recalculate everything)
  • Use advanced CSS3 for graphic card rendering
  • Precalculate sizes and positions

Beware of reflows

The reflow appens as many times as there are frames per seconds. It recalculate all positions that change in order to diplay them. Basically, when you scroll you execute a function where you move things between two reflows. But there are functions that triggers reflows such as jQuery offset, scroll... So there are two things to take care about when you dynamically change objects in javascript to avoid too many reflows:

A little utility to allow simple redeployment of Clojure web servers with zero downtime, and without the need for a proxy or load balancer. Just wrap any port-binding calls, and the utility will auto kill pre-existing servers as necessary. *nix only. Based on the blog post by Feng Shen, http://shenfeng.me/fast-restart-clojure-webapp.html
;; (require '[clojure.string :as str] '[clojure.java.shell :as shell] '[taoensso.timbre :as timbre])
(defn with-free-port!
"Attempts to kill any current port-binding process, then repeatedly executes
nullary `bind-port!-fn` (which must return logical true on successful
binding). Returns the function's result when successful, else throws an
exception. *nix only.
This idea courtesy of Feng Shen, Ref. http://goo.gl/kEolu."

Amazon S3 Redirect Rules Generator

Amazon S3 Redirect Rules Generator

A Ruby script to generate simple Amazon S3 Redirection Rules XML file.

Update: There is an app for that now! Use Amazon S3 Redirector (Web app) and you can generate the XML without any knowledge about Ruby. Thanks to @rainforestapp. BTW, It's open source too.

Simple prompt functionality for Rails / jQuery UJS, modelled after "confirm". Tested with Rails 4 (edge).
# Usage: link_to …, prompt: { message: 'Some message', default: 'default value', param: 'name of parameter' }
# The prompt will ask for "message" and use "default" as the default value.
# Unless user selects cancel, "param"=<new value> will be sent to the given path.
# Optionally, you can just use `prompt: "message"`.
$.rails.prompt = (message, defaultValue) ->
window.prompt message, defaultValue
$.rails.handlePrompt = (element) ->
config = element.data 'prompt'
