Adapted from Briefing: The Apache Way
The Apache Way is not One Way. Every Apache project is unique and every member describes their experience with their own words. But here are some attributes that everyone in Apache embraces.
Apache is made of people, not organizations. Contributions are voluntary and all votes weigh the same. A strong community can always make good code better.
Remember: as a community built on respect, we follow a Code of Conduct
Everyone can participate. Someone's influence depends on their public contributions. Merit is specific to each project.
Remember: Apache is vendor neutral. Merit is not influenced by who you work for.
Communications are public and global. Daily operations might be an exception to the rule, but project direction and decisions never are.
Remember: when in doubt, always bring discussions on-list
Each project decides how to run itself. Most projects look for consensus to be fast and productive.
Remember: a vote might be needed to remove decision blockers
Apache works thanks to trust and oversight. Projects report to the Board and individuals keep each other accountable.
Remember: peer-reviews are never about you, they're about the project and the community
