I will write a small passage about a subject written in my language. I will share it with you. We will both translate the passage into your language.
We will share our translated passages. We will talk about corrections, make clarifications, and discuss language concepts.
I will create and share an audio recording of the passage I wrote. You will create and share an audio recording of the translated passage.
I will listen to your recording and practice speaking the passage aloud. You will listen to my recording and practice speaking the passage aloud. We will meet online where we will take turns speaking the passage to each other. We will give each other feedback, corrections, and suggestions.
Suggested schedule is to complete this exercise over the course of one week.
- Monday - Write and share passage
- Wednesday - Share translation
- Friday - Share recording
- Sunday - Practice speaking
Each week take turns writing the initial passage. Even though this format is geared towards a mentor-mentee, the language mentor can use that opportunity to create a passage that re-inforces or expands on ideas in the previous exercise. The mentor may also receive valuable feedback in their ability to learn important culture localizations for their translations.
The passage is meant to be a small. A few sentences that convey an idea, tell a story, or be an exchange of dialog.
